After years of running a Pod direct and occasionally plugging into a $100 hey-it's-got-a-tube-in-it Vox, I'm considering picking up an amp. Current feature wish list is...
*It needs to be a good platform for my Pod. Mostly this just means an FX loop, though from what I hear, a Cube 60 with the right EQ is fine for this.
*Needs to have a decent preamp for use in case of either Pod failure or as an alternate rig for whatever reason. Channel switching is a plus.
*Must be playable at bedroom volumes and able to supply enough volume for a small-to-medium club gig.
Thanks to my employer, I can get a decent discount on Fender, Vox, Marshall, Line 6, Peavey, and Roland. This puts the Hot Rod Deluxe and Spider Valve 112 in reach when they wouldn't otherwise be, and makes amps from those brands a bit more affordable than usual.
I'm leaning toward combos for simplicity if nothing else; nothing bigger than a 2x12 is going to be very practical. Genre? Industrial on the KMFDM/Pigface/Skinny Puppy end of things, so clean and high gain are important, but not so much the warm organic vintagey crunchy creamy chimey edge of breakup stuff.
So, yeah. Ye who have spent far more time and money on gear, suggestions?
