Sub £70 distortion pedal as versatile as the Uber Metal?

I.e with full EQ, different sounds, gain knob, a nice, amp like tone (I.e not metal zone like) for under 70 pounds... The shops here have nothing and the amps at the rehearsal places I use suck, so I want another channel at my feet basically. I'll listen to any advise. I need a lot of gain AND a lot of mids, as well as good cutting power basically. Suggest away what you tried!

Depending on the tone you're looking for, get one of the following from boss:
OD-3, SD-1, BD-2, DS-1, DS-2 . . . all have their benefits and sound pretty good depending on the amp you try them with. See if you can find a store that'll let you try them out with your amp.

The SD, OD and BD aren't distortions though. I have a modded SD1 which I love and a modded DS1 which is meh, but not yet finished.
My amp doesn't exist since 20 years so that's hard to do hehe... Definitely not a possibility.
As for the MI audio, aren't they over 100 pounds now? And not distributed in the UK?

I've seen Crunchboxes go for $99 over here, so with shipping, yeah, it'd be maybe a bit over 75 pounds. I've never been a big fan of Boss distortion, but with a few mods they sound pretty good.

have a look at the twin tube when it comes out? might be saving up for, it's exactly what you've described..

Nah te Twin Tube again is an overdrive/mild distortion. No high gain sounds there. For this purpose I already have a modded SD1, a Bad Monkey and I'm soon to get a visual sound route 66 so I'm stocked up hehe...

Yeah the Vox Cooltron Bulldog sounds good but it's 140 oounds...

i used to run an amt california sound into my crate v32. sounded plenty like an amp for me =D

but they cost $100, and i have no clue how much that may be in pounds ;O

Just under £100 with taxes and such. I asked shops whether they could order me the British sound one but no can do. They'd have to call in Russia... Apparently only one place sells them online, but I only have cash so I can only use stores... meh... AMT were first on my list actually.

Have you tried chaining together your SD-1 and DS-1 ? Set both of them to about half gain, and full volume, then go into the distortion channel of the amp (set so that it's just barely breaking up) that you're using . . . that should defiinately get you into some metal territory. And the best part is that it's free 'cause you already have the pedals. I have done this a couple times with my BD-2 boosting into my DS-2 and definately get a mid heavy high gain sound . . . it's a lot less metallic sounding than the MT-2 as well.

Yeah... It didn't work out so well. If I did this I'd place the SD1 just in front of the amp and the DS1 just after the guitar for more overall preamp boost. No need to boost the DS1 more as even with the current mods it doesn't sound really good at all. I don't dig it.

Anyway... the shops here have nothing except for the Line 6 uber metal pretty much. I want that Vox Bulldog but they're 150 pounds ($300) which is way too much. So I'm going to be distortion less for a bit, I may have to bring the POD at rehearsals but that'd suck.
None of the shops carry either the Metal Muff, AMT don't exist in the UK, it's impossible to find MXR MC402 (which would have replaced all my boosts). Selling stuff isn't even an option, I've had stuff on sale going on for months now and no one got a single thing yet. So I'm a little stuck. Meh. Sorry for the rant.

If you really hate the DS-1 and like the SD-1, it sounds like you're looking for an overdrive more than a distortion pedal then . . . (the SD-1 is definately an OD pedal despite the name). I'm a little confused as to what you're looking for . . . do you want lots of gain? Or are you looking for a specific tone? If it's the latter, you might do better with an overdrive/distortion pedal and an EQ pedal. Then you can tweak the sounds to be exactly the way you want, and also use it to boost one of your pedals. Just an idea . . .

No no... I use the SD1 as a boost. But I'm looking for a Distortion to use as a standalone high gain channel. Totally different applications.

I want a decent, thick and not digital sounding Distortion that I can bring to band practice and won't rape my sound nor cause stupid feedback. So I can go from clean sound to high gain with one switch.
Bah what the heck... I'll save up some of my imaginary income and get the Bulldog. It's a good sounding pedal and has two channels. Now if only anyone would buy my stuff, it'd help.

i used for a long time the rampage.it's really quiet and hava lots of gain.The mids are not enorm and th sound is really chainsaw like.But it delivers really nasty Gain!!!
And the boss mega distortion!!!.I love it.This is "NOT" just for new metal as many describe these days.it is really versatile and u can dial lots of different tones.And if you drop the tune ,believe it delivers.!!!

I found someone in Glasgow who'd give me the assembled, painted and custom made pedal with a clean boost + distortion in one unit for a good price. I think I'll go with that. Thanks!
