Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Hey all,

Received a neck from ICTGoober (great trader - perfect condition, well packed, good guy), found a shoreline gold Strat body to mount it on... going to be a fun build.

Here’s the question: I have a mint green pickguard in the parts closet. Would this work on a gold body or would that be like substituting the solo in Highway Star with T Pain or some other atrocity?

Thoughts?

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Glad to know the neck finally made it through customs! (thanks for the kind words, too).

Mint green on shoreline gold with a rosewood neck would have a traditional look many folks would find appealing.
But if it was mine, I'd go with white/black/white.

Try it out. Post a pic, you’ll get all sorts of opinions.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Shoreline with a mint guard and rosewood is exactly how I was going to do mine but I ended up going Sherwood Green, and I still think I'm getting a mint green guard.

I've also been really liking Firemist Gold as well.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

I’ll always tell you to go with a black guard...that’s my fave anyway.

Looks pretty good.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Ive got a Black and Mint Tele -weird but I like it.

I've been wanting to build a Seafoam Green/Minty thing with Ebony Neck and Gold Hardware guitar for a long time.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

It works. But kinda conventional, no? Perloid white usually looks great on Fenders, but it's not exactly subtle, though. Or matching. Heck, if you can find a matching one, go with that.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

I'd probably lean towards a parchment guard, but I've never met a Fender strat or tele I didn't like the look of. All the different colours seem to work together, some just look more 'classic' and others more 'quirky'. There's a custom shop tele they make now thats Lake Placid Blue, RW fretboard, and a red tort pickguard. Of all the colours that you'd probably not do, they've done it, and I actually don't mind it - quirky!

I say just use the mint if you have it on hand, it'll be nice with a RW fretboard.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Yeah, that's a great color combo, and I am not partial to gold. The mint green makes me like it a lot more.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

By the way, you need the Aged White plastics to go with the Mint guard like in the pic.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

I went with tortoise shell on my Shoreline Lonestar Strat!

I like that! That has a lot of class. Looks like a money guitar.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Shoreline Gold and mint green looks really good IMO. Shoreline Gold also looks great with a soft white guard ("parchment"), especially once the guard has worn in and lost its gloss. It's tortoise shell and other "figured" pickguard materials that don't work well with it IMO.

Not a problem at all, it’s always a little risky buying stuff off the internet from someone hundreds of miles away, so it’s worth a shout out when things go really well so you can reference in future trades/sales.

Found a real Fender (important as I’ve only ever had Chandler guards other than Fender ones line up on a Strat) parchment guard for $10, so going to go with parchment accessories and try both.

Never thought I’d get a gold Strat, but it’s different and I think it will be pretty cool.

Thanks!

I too only use Fender pickguards, the tort, Mint has parchment just look right to me.

If you are going to use Parchment for the pickguard, I’d definitely go with Aged White plastics. Here’s my Strat with Parchment pickguard and Aged White plastics. It makes it stand out better I think.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Yours and the Strats above all look great. Great thing about a Fender is how easy it is to customize them. Already thinking transparent blue tele with a pearl guard.

I have some white covers/knobs and etc. So might do the coffee stain treatment until the colour is just right.

Re: Subjective question: Shoreline gold with a mint pickguard?

Philosophical question,

When one builds a Strat of all Fender made Strat parts from the same country of manufacturing but of different years and models, is it a partscaster or simply a Strat?

Thoughts?
