Subwoofer Crossover Question

Would it be possible to get an internal crossover for something like http://www.electrovoice.com/products/120.html

I ask because I would be using A Dynacord Powermate 1000 and nothing else to power it, So I could not use an active X-over on it.


Perhaps this Is more than I would need in a subwoofer. I'm using 2 Alto 15" 300w RMS tops and am looking to be able to get the bass drum to kick you in the face and Beef up the sound of our band.


Short of getting one of Dual Subs does anyone have any experience with http://www.electrovoice.com/products/119.html ?

Passive crossovers are pretty inefficient, they give off a lot of heat, and they suck power. You'd be just as well off as getting an active eq even a stomp box one, and dumping all the higher frequencies you don't want.

Your Powermate may have patch points in between the mixer and it's internal power amps. They might be marked MAIN OUT or GRAPHIC OUT; and then there should also be returns to the amp.

You may be able to use these patch point to hook in an electronic crossover that would drive a separate power amp to drive the subs.

There are ways to do this, you just have to find the right patch points. Check your owner's manual or the MFG's tech support.

Thats the thing though,. I Only have the Powermate, I only have only 1 poweramp and thats the one in the Powermate.

But you are correct I could do that If I had another power amp, which I do not.

Anyway disregard, I think i shall go with the single subs anyhow. :6:

Like I said, there's a lot of different ways of doing this. You might be able to use a spare bass amp as a power source. I've even added in 115 bass combo amps into PAs as subwoofers, admittedly--it won't perform like a 2000 watt sub system, but it may give you some added kick.

Like more things, subs just take desire--and money. It's when you don't have the money that you have to get creative. Been there, done that, believe me.

I have a lot of experience with the Eliminator series of boxes. The Eliminator sub is not bad but it's not great either. It's really only rock solid to 50hz so it falls a bit short of delivering true kick drum / Low E beef. The 1/4 connectors on the Eliminator series are cheesy too.

It seems that EV just cut a few corners to meet a price point. But if they just charged 10-15 more dollars a box they could have avoided some of the "cheese factor." For example: I bought a 15" stage wedge about 6 years ago. When I picked it up by the handle I could just tell that after a year of so of carting it around the handle was going to break. I told the sales guy that I'd buy the box but that he was going to have to eat the price of a new handle when it broke. He just gave a me one of those "gosh I hate customers" looks. Sure enough a year later I was back in the store demanding a new handle....I got one for no charge....it broke in another year.
