Such a easy MOD, BUT WHAT GREAT RESULTS! (CC related)

Re: Such a easy MOD, BUT WHAT GREAT RESULTS! (CC related)

I've plugged this mod in here for some time now. I haven't noticed "faster tracking" with it but then again I haven't really thought about that aspect of it -- the difference I notice is much punchier upper mids without loss of shimmer and sparkle. (It's a lot like adding 1k to 2k to your pickup's DC resistance in terms of the added midrange but without the trade-off of losing some of the highs.) Maybe the more pronounced upper mids give better front end articulation thereby creating the impression of faster tracking.

Anyway, I have a more refined version of it that I call "tuning your pole pieces". By this I mean cutting each pole to a different length according to the tonal needs of each string. Maybe your high E sounds perfectly fine, your D string sounds more or less fine and could still use a little more punch, but your B is a little thin and weak. So you trim the D-string pole a little, the B-string pole a LOT, but the high E not at all. You get the idea...

Also, you can buy pole pieces from AllParts.

I would like to give a big hello to WICKED LESTER since I'm assuming he's a KISS
fan as I obviously am since I chose FREHLEY for my handle.

KISS from '73 to '82 ruled. (sorry, but no post-Ace Frehley KISS was ever really KISS)

How would this mod work with a SH-5 Custom??
The lows are too tight for my taste, but i like the power and the crunch of the SH-5.
It could just have a bit more highs and a bit less lows.

yeah to me it seemed to track faster like when i take off on a 64th note run ala paul gilbert the CC does not lack behind like it did?
dont know if i am imagining things or what but i just prefer the overall fell of it now with the cut poles

Wicked Lester,
I love Les Pauls & agree with everything you said about Ace's playing.
I can't think of any solo he did with KISS that wasn't good. It's always great to meet another KISS fan and hope to continue to see more of your posts.

Thanks for your reply bro!!!

Tonewise, you're not imagining things. It makes a difference -- more upper mid bite.

Someone once asked about how this mod would affect the C5. My opinion (without having tried it) is that it wouldn't add mids where the C5 needs it (roughly the 300 to 800 Hz range) but in the range where it seems to have plenty (1.5 to 3 KHz). Might make it sound even more scooped and hollow, but I could be wrong...
