Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

I'm wanting to get an EQ pedal to try running in my FX Loop. I was looking at the Boss GE-7 and the MXR 6-band. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

I have an MXR KFK 10 band that I run in my loop and a DOD FX40b I run out front.. If I had to make a suggestion I'd say the DOD. There probably still cheap on the used market, and it works awesome. The KFK is great too, just a little more pricey.

MXR 10 band! It's a great eq, I sold mine a while back because I guess I'm more of a tone naturalist. I use a boss eq as a mid boost for solos now and then. It's noiseier than the MXR. Our bassist has the 10 band and loves it!

Alright, well so far its looking like the MXR 10-band. Just wondering, is the 10-band that bunch better than the 6-band?

Boss is extra noisy in the loop. I'd go with MXR.

Re: Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

The Boss has alot of hiss...I use the MXR 10 band also in the effects loop...Great pedal,quiet..

Re: Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

i tried my boss eq in the loop of my marshall. It did what it was supposed to do - made it all sound bigger and more defined etc. Not noisy, but i had done the monte allums mod kit to it so it had better op amps etc. Thats the only eq i can comment on, i have not tried any others.

I used to upgrade the chips and caps in the Boss EQs...Did quite a few actually. The MXR is a better pedal in my opinion..

Re: Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

The thing about the MXR 10 band that's always annoyed me are the leftmost and rightmost bands. There is no way a 32 Hz band or a 16 kHz band will be useful on a guitar.

Re: Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

Is the MXR 6-band still a good pedal or should I just get an MXR 10-band? The 6-band would take up less room on my board....

Re: Suggest a good EQ pedal for me...

I use a 6 band MXR that I picked up from a guy on the forum here for about $40. It works great. I've had friends play with an MXR 10 band and those work great, too. I bought the 6 band because of space issues like you've mentioned and I was able to find one pretty cheap. Which ever of the two work out in your situation, the quality is certainly there with the MXR eqs.

I have to disagree. I have heard that statement before, so, with pedal hooked up I slid the sliders full on, full off on the extremes of 32 Hz and 16 kHz. I definitely heard the difference on both the 32 Hz and 16 kHz sides with a Fender Strat and a Ibanez Les Paul copy. Do the test yourself.

Now, will you hear that difference in a high gain, high volume setting?????, no frack'en way, but it does make a difference, and in some musical situations, it will make the music shine.

I think so . . . i like the extra low end, at 31Hz.
I believe the 6 band only goes as low as 100Hz.

That is exactly why i got it, it's for that looooow 31Hz.
It helps when i play Soundgarden, Sleep, Fu Manchu, Electric Wizard and the like !
My secret weapon - if you will !
