Suggest A Pedalboard

I looked through the archive but didn't find the answer I needed. I don't have the tools to make a metal casing, and I want durability for transporting my pedals over to my friends house etc. I'm so sick of taking my pedals out of the box with care, setting them up, plugging them in, and then putting it all away and repeating the next time at home, as well. My pedals are listed in my sig and the only additions I can see myself making is replacing the phaser with an MXR or Small Stone, getting an RMC2, throwing a smooth fuzz in there somewhere, an SD-1, and a SD pickup booster. Can you guys give me some advice?

I use the PedalTrain Pro board. Its extremely durable, light, and you can hide the cables underneath.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

Another vote for the pedaltrain...it's what I use and it's an amazing pedalboard. They also make a couple of sizes so you can find the one that's right for you.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

I have made a few pedal boards over the years. Its pretty simple and you don't need a lot of tools to do it. I used an old shelf that I had laying around that was 14" x 30" I painted it black and I velcroed the pedals down. All the pedals are powerd by the Visual sound one spot. http://www.visualsound.net/1spotcombo.htm. You can get these at musicians friend for about 25$. A little spray paint a few screws a drill to run the wires underneath the board. It took me all of about 2 evenings to do it. no big deal! There is a phot of one that I made awhile ago in my sig, but I don't use that particular board anymore. I have reduced the number of pedals I use now.

I throw mine in the back of the car and have never had any issues. You can even buy a small velcro type bag that it will fit in. Easy and cheap!

Fair warning on the PedalTrain's. If you opt for the hard case, they are HEAVY! I use the version that comes with a soft case and I'm very happy with it.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

They are pretty soft. But they work fine. If you are not giging I wouldn't worry about it. I throw mine around pretty well and it all works fine.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

Its actually a very good quality bag. Thick enough to be effective in protecting the pedals during transport.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

i gig with mine- there is some space inside to throw extra foam if you want- i use towels...but i heard the hard case was heavy so i went with the soft. as long as you don't check it on a plane or let gorillas load in and out for you, you will be fine (and save money)...you could always get a cheap used ATA case if you intend to fly with it.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

Yeah, the soft case (my sister has one) is pretty durable and rugged and protects very well (assuming the pedals are fastened well to the board).

I have the hard case and I have the big pedalboard, and it's quite heavy! especially once loaded....I still don't regret it. It has wheels on it that makes it portable, and it's the ultimate in protection!

Speaking of fastening..I found a new method...

I took the back off my pedals, and put velcro on them, allowing a small piece of velcro to flip over to the "inside" part of the cover, then I proceeded to screw the back cover back onto the pedal. Now the Velcro is a permanent fixture on the pedal! for pedals in which the velcro would touch the parts, I used a small piece of plastic to protect the components. No more velcro coming off the back of pedals!

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

Cool. The only thing that turns me off is the price of the hardcase. I still have a feeling that a bag would not compress them as tightly as a box though.

Re: Suggest A Pedalboard

I almost ordered this one, but it was a couple of inches too small for my pedals. It should be plenty big enough for you.

If you want AC power, I give a Perluss Whun for the VS OneSpot. It will power 5 pedals (9v).

to give you an idea of the size of this board...this is an old picture..I'll get a new one soon...

Exactly what I did. I bought a 12"x24" black oak finished shelf from Home Depot, some nice cabinet handles, industrial strength velcro and a couple cheap mousepads (for the bottom). Took me all but an hour, if that, to make it complete.
