suggest an amp for me for stoner rock

i've got some money burning a hole in my pocket. meaning my price range is about up to 800 bucks but i'd rather not spend all of it. here's what i want out of the rig

low wattage
sounds good cranked
takes fuzz and distortion well
clean channel


basically i wanna get a chunky, thick sound without having to blow my freakin ears out. i will be using dist pedals with this, so no distortion channel is needed per se. for wattage i'm thinking 5-15.
maybe the orange tiny terror?

The Tiny Terrorist seems about right but you'll be running out of clean headroom quickly if you want to play with a band. No channel switching between clean and crunch but the beauty of that amp in its simplicity is that it sounds "pure" on just about any setting.

You also won't get the massive low-end girth that you can get with the classic Matamps, Oranges and Sun T-Models but on the flipside even if you owned such monstrous amps you'd be using them with the master below 1 at home anyways. With a TT the volume is still quite manageable around 4-5 without blowing the windows out.

put a tone knob on it though, from what i understand it's an easy as hell mod

then pick up either a metal muff or the russian big muff. They'll bring the thunder

hehe, that's what i was wanting to hear.

from your review the russian sounds perfect. i wasn't a huge fan of the muff pi because of the lack of low end.

Cream, what type of "stoner rock" do you mean? Do you have any tones or tunes you can supply as a reference point?

This will sound really stupid and out of path, but with right pedal, speaker and Custom Custom pickup in short scale guitar, you`ll bring any amp **** close to what you want.

well yes, but not the one i have right now.
i've tried, the amp doesn't sound great when its maxed

Yeah you could mod a Valve Junior or just buy a Blackheart, those have the 3-band EQ stock. Plus they've got that 15-watter that's pretty similar to a Tiny Terror, and a 100-watter that switches to 60 and 30 watts...definitely a brand worth looking at.

But yeah...stoner rock tone is basically a tube amp that's cranked to overdrive territory and a good Muff / fuzz / distortion to make it all crazy. Mahogany bodied guitars with midrange-focused pickups like P90s or alnico 2 humbuckers help. oh and :smokin:

TT or sure, the new laney lionhearts may be a good amp to look into as they are also low wattage all tube.

the laney vc 30 might be a bit too much power, same with the pro tube mv30 series from the 80s.

valve jr + eq pedal was the shiz man. i miss having that setup. doom was just WHAT IT DID you know? just turn the knob all the way up and rock. however, now they come stock with EH tubes and when i tried it at the store it sounded terrible to my ears. put a chinese 12ax7 in the pre and a sovtec in the power to get the V jr sound i fell in love with. with high output pups it can do thrash and stuff too

5-15 watts class A is pretty loud. but ur gonna have issues with hearing yourself over drummer or second guitarist, and issues with hearing yourself through a monitor on stage for stoner rock. Even 30 watts is a little light. Screamingdaisy plays a different style of music but had a 30watt rocker Orange and ultimately sold it. u should just wear earplugs. if u need tube amp to jam by yourself at home then ya go for $100 epi valve and dont spend ur money modding it. but back it up with something like what u really want:

QOTSA tone is awesome! they play ampeg v-4s. or the combo version which is V-22. I dont recommend the combo cause it weighs 100lbs!!! the v-4 is at 70lbs but is less bulky. If I were u Id get the v-4 and a 2x12 cabinet like mesa recto, and get a hotplate so you can crank amp and fix volume.

i used my jr in jam situations and sometimes couldn't hear the drummer depending on where i stood. its a LOUD ass 5 watts so unless you have a basement you might have some angry family members

yeh a EVJ and a EH Big Muff will put you right in the middle of some sweet stoney doom tone for not much dough
but the TT just oozes stoner vibe
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM !!!!!
