Looking to get a fuzz pedal to run thru a Randall solid state. (rx75dg2)

I am looking to be able to cover stuff like Sabbath, The Sword, down... that kind of stuff. Basically a good Doom metal sound. anywhere from 100-120 . New or used.

I am currently torn between...Wampler Leviathan, Earthquaker Hoof, and EHx Big muff pi with wicker. But i am not bound to just these three. all suggestions are welcome

Re: suggest me a fuzz pedal.

well, you could get the Hoof for about $140 on Labor Day weekend from ProGuitarShop or Musictoyz, per my post in the sound room.

Re: suggest me a fuzz pedal.

The Hoof and the Colossus are 'Muff Plus' pedals which will give you plenty of Muffy fun and a lot more beside.

Re: suggest me a fuzz pedal.

I'd suggest the other two over the Big Muff with Wicker which I found a bit too fizzy rather then gnarly and thick like you want for those bands. The leviathin seems like a cool pedal otherwise there are lots of muff style pedals that would suit. The musket fuzz seems to have a lot of scope and is a bit tighter then a normal muff.

first off, you will reject my advice because you do not want to hear it.

THERE IS NO FUZZ PEDAL THAT WILL DO WHAT YOU WANT. TWO RULES:

(1) FIRST figure out what you are really wanting. Yes Sabbath albums 1 thru 4 use fuzz, BUT SWORD, DOWN they do not or rarely ever use fuzz pedals.

(2) GET A TUBE AMP...if you decide you still need a muff style fuzz, then you need to know and embrace that fuzz pedals interact with tube amps only and NOT with solid state

these two rules will be stated to you by any knowledgeable musician that listens to to these genres, over and over

the sword doesnt use fuzz eh?

Re: suggest me a fuzz pedal.

indeed I miss my Jvm. I wish i had held on to it. But bills are bills. sometimes gear has to get sold to keep the lights on.

Re: suggest me a fuzz pedal.

+1 to a tube amp...even tho i understand why its not possible at this time. Patience is a virtue.

Re: suggest me a fuzz pedal.

I know EHX makes it and it has the word "Muff" on it but isn't that actually a distortion pedal? I owned one briefly and I've had actual Big Muff fuzz pedals and to me they were apples and oranges. It's more like a Boss Metal Zone except it sounds good.

+1 yet again on getting a tube amp. A good fuzz behaves much better with them than SS. That tube breakup plus the heavy fuzz is where that tone lies. Now, if you were wanting a good scooped modern metal tone your Randall is just what the Dr. ordered. Stoner, Doom etc. Nope. Seen Down twice and there was nothing but Orange amps there. Seen the Obsessed and Wino had a Marshall. Actually, I believe J.D. Croniss of The Sword uses Orange amps too. Starting to see a trend there?

I totally understand sometimes you have to use what you have on hand but I'd look into selling/trading that Randall for a good tube head before I started looking for the right fuzz.

My 2 cents.
