Re: Suggested height of the JB ??

Well, sounds like good advices. The reason I ask is because I'm playing it through a Marshall MG, and basically all humbuckers sound like crap through that, except for the clean channel, so therefore I thought that there might have been a suggested height, since adjusting it while playing it through a Marshall MG amp won't give me a very good vision of it's 'real' sound.
I think the JB most definitely has a sweet spot, and I will tell you this - no other pickup gave me fits trying to adjust the p'up height and polepieces as the JB. After all this tinkering, I came to the following conclusions:
The Jb sounds fullest closest to the strings. While this is true of most humbuckers, the JB gets real thin when too low, its almost as if you dialed out the "JB-Ness!". Also, I found that it sounds best when the polepieces are adjusted evenly across all strings, not radiused.
I think you can tell you have the sweet spot by the note decay, when you bend or hold a note, it will decay with an almost vocal, open wah sound. A very desirable sound that I did not get at all height settings.
Of course - what sounds great to me, may sound like garbage to someone else, so this is just my humble opinion. Also, my JB is in a PRS Custom 22, mahogany/maple cap body. Personally, I hear none of the over-trebly, bass lacking characteristics everyone complains about, in fact I find it quite warm.
