Suggested height of the JB ??

Re: Suggested height of the JB ??

i assume he means bass side is the string closest to you when in playing position. i just adjusted my strat pups from the secondhand MIM fender i bought..took me a few sessions and keeping my amp eq flat to realize the volume on my bottom 2 strings (treble side:)) were lacking oomph compared to the others..realized the pups were way off kilter...maybe the sound the previous owner was looking for, but i wanted more equal volume..a few screw turns on all 3 pickups balanced the volume right out and tone overall is fine.

Oh, yeah, my bad, lol... I wasn't thinking. My pickup is adjusted so the side towards the neck is tilted up and the site towards the bridge is tilted down. I'm thinking they should be even?

For me the sweet spot of the JB is in the neck position, flipped 180° (screws in traditional "neckward" position) about 1/2" away from the strings ;)

Yup, thats the ONLY way a JB sounds decent!!!!

I am gravely sorry my friend... i offer my sympathies for your loss... of seventy bucks and hours of your life because the JB is not worth playing on:omg:

Thanks for the intelligent commentary.

Well, sounds like good advices. The reason I ask is because I'm playing it through a Marshall MG, and basically all humbuckers sound like crap through that, except for the clean channel, so therefore I thought that there might have been a suggested height, since adjusting it while playing it through a Marshall MG amp won't give me a very good vision of it's 'real' sound.

drown the mg in petrol and set it on fire !! right now !!

Sune-
Yes I dont think there is any advantage to tiliting the pickup towrds or aware from the bridge- I woudl work on evening that out if I were you-

But as far as the 'bass side' yes I have screwed the screw that is cloest to you when you are playing more and this brings that side of the pup closer to the bass strings and the treble side is all the way down at the body so the whole pup slants about 20 degress away from the strings as you move from bass strings to trebble strings-

again, this is a very, very bright maple guitar
