Suggestion for new Neck pick up

I have an American Strat Deluxe Hss Qmm and the neck pickup sounds awesome, but I need a possibly better and louder neck pickup for a good SRV tone. Anybody know the name of the pickups that are used in the SRV signature guitar by fender? because those sound awesome

Thanks

Those are Texas Specials but SRV never used them.

SRV used pickups similar to the Duncan SSL-1 and Antiquity Surfer.

My faves for SRV tone are the Duncan Antiquity Surfers.

+1 on that Lew.

I've got them in my JV Strat and love them. I don't use Custom Surfer Bridge though. Just a set of regular surfs.

SRV used (I heard) two Tube Screamer pedals as well, so it's not "just" the pickups. However, I think Lew is right: get the TX specials.
The Wiki said:
The pickups were never overwound purposely, but were from a batch of pickups made at Fender in 1959 that had been mistakenly overwound, producing Number One's distinctive sound.

Gotta call bull on that Wiki entry.

The Fender Custom shop recently dissasembled Stevies #1 and tested and measured the components. According to them (and the GP article), SRV's pickups were wound in the mid 5k range.

TS's aren't the pickups to get either. Like Lew said, go with either the Surfers or SSL-1's.

Um, where did Lew say that? In fact he recommended the opposite.

There was an article in GP by Cesar Diaz years ago, and in it Diaz claimed that SRV sought out weaker Strat style pickups...6K or under. So there may be some truth to this. At one time I used to have Lindy Fralin wind me Strat pickups under 6K for the neck and middle and they were super chimey. But I'm back to using 6K or a little over again and I feel that the best Strat single coils I've ever used are the Duncan Antiquitys.

As for the Texas Specials, SRV never used them. It's my guess that the thought behind them was that Fender wanted to try and get SRV's tone for guys who couldn't handle SRV's super high action and super thick strings so they tried to come up with a pickup that would give that tone with skinny .010 - .046 srings and the Texas Specials were born.

I've used them...sold them again right away but they were good.

My badd, sorry, I misread Lew's post, but I recommend what Lew said.

Well I didn't write the wiki, but I apologize, didn't realize it wasn't true. However, I think his tone, other than (and I agree) high action and thick string gauges, was the dual tube screamer setup.

Oh well, I guess sometimes even wikipedia is wrong. Guess I should stick with info only if I actually see it take place (i.e. should've given opinion rather than wiki since I never saw SRV's rig or tested his axe). Go figure....

However, my reaction to the way some people seem to worship his "#1" as if it's going to sound totally better than everything on the planet is to raise the BS flag in my head. Besides this, my philosophy is never to try to copy any of the greats, but to make it on my own merit. Don't get me wrong, I love his tone, and I greatly admire his playing skills (rest in peace), but I'm not him.
