Re: Suggestion for new Neck pick up
Um, where did Lew say that? In fact he recommended the opposite.
My badd, sorry, I misread Lew's post, but I recommend what Lew said.

Gotta call bull on that Wiki entry.
The Fender Custom shop recently dissasembled Stevies #1 and tested and measured the components. According to them (and the GP article), SRV's pickups were wound in the mid 5k range.
TS's aren't the pickups to get either. Like Lew said, go with either the Surfers or SSL-1's.
Well I didn't write the wiki, but I apologize, didn't realize it wasn't true. However, I think his tone, other than (and I agree) high action and thick string gauges, was the dual tube screamer setup.
Oh well, I guess sometimes even wikipedia is wrong. Guess I should stick with info only if I actually see it take place (i.e. should've given opinion rather than wiki since I never saw SRV's rig or tested his axe). Go figure....
However, my reaction to the way some people seem to worship his "#1" as if it's going to sound totally better than everything on the planet is to raise the BS flag in my head. Besides this, my philosophy is never to try to copy any of the greats, but to make it on my own merit. Don't get me wrong, I love his tone, and I greatly admire his playing skills (rest in peace), but I'm not him.
