Suggestion for wah pedal

I'm tired of the increasingly scratchy original CryBaby I have and its time to treat myself to a new wah.

Since theres so many on the market these days I thought asking you all some idea's to check out would be a smart move

The options these days are mindnumbing with Dunlap alone having like 10 models of the Crybaby.

Theres the Slash, the Dimebag, the Zakk Wylde, the 535Q, the original, the Faseal Inductor, the Jimi Hendrix, etc I don't even know where to start and no, I'm not only looking to Dunlap, Fulltone, Vox, Morley etc all are fair game too

I've got some rather wide needs as well. I not only want something that can get great hendrix tones, but also that excels as the boom chicka wah wah funk tones, and yet has a nice sweep and a good thick lush sound

The Crybaby I have always leaves me feeling a little flat as its a bit thin and really doesn't have that much sweep.

Im open to the different desings such as the Morely Bad Horsie as well, it doesnt need to be steretypical Crybaby design. I have heard the Morley is a poor choice for the funk stuff though ?

So basically its totally open, I certainly would like to spend as little as possible, but the Fulltone's, Teese etc are still options for me even though they are pricey. I don't mind paying more if it gets me what I'm after but if a VOX 847 would work just as well for my needs for half as much I want to save the money, make sense.

So I welcome your suggestions and dialog

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

I recorded a short demo of the Teese RMC-1 yesterday, you can find it in the "Tips & Clips" forum. That should give you a good idea of how it sounds. Definitely good for funk. The RMC-1 is designed for single coils, but the other wahs in his range will all suit humbuckers.

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

The Teese definatly sounds great, very thick and full yet still clear and not muddy which isnt easy to do. Not shrill icepick tone or thinning out on the bass either

Looking at his page, I'm a bit taken back with so many choices. Being I do mainly use wah with my strat for funky RHCP type stuff, Jimi etc, the RMC-1 could indeed be a good way to go but some of the others sound nice as well.

The RMC-2 sounds like with adjusting the sweep and Q you can match the RMC-1 tones ?

Another nice thing about the RMC line as a whole is that they have a mod similar to the FoxRox as a standard feature so it will work better with a fuzz, which I love.

I do suppose an Email to Geoffery Teese probably would help me pick the perfect model for my taste, but I'm still always open to waht everyone else thinks

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

Im a recent Teese convert, I ended up with a picture wah but I was looking for the classic Vox wah tone(s).

I have tried a BUNCH of wah pedals over th eyears and these one is IT for me...

What kind of wah sound are you looking for and what kind of guitars, amps and other FX do you use???

The RMC 2 will get very close to the RMC 1 sound but it's not exact...

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

One option would be to keep your old wah and just replace the pot and the switch.

I have a new VOX Clyde McCoy, and the new Crybaby Classic--neither are as full, throaty and nasty sounding as my original Thomas Organ Crybaby--yet both are good. The VOX is probably better for "Shaft" type work; while the TO Crybaby (no not the Dallas Cowboy!!!) is more "Rock", ala Terry Kath of Chicago--and the Crybaby Classic is in between.

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

The other guitar player in my band just recently got a Budda wah that is really nice sounding. I never heard one before but I was impressed. He was using a Dunlop 535Q before then. I've still got my old GCB-95 with an Area 51 inductor and pot in it. Sounds real sweet. My next wah will most likely be a Crybaby Classic.

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

in every wah thread i always pimp out Snarling Dogs wahs. Check one out. They have twice the sweep of a vox or dunlop.

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

I've got a Vox, a Morely and a basic Crybaby, but if I ever wanted an ultimate wah, I'd go with something from Teese...

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

I'll definatly have to try out the Snarling Dogs whine-o-wah, sounds pretty cool having a "shaft" mode for the funk stuff and then a "voodoo" mode for the Hendrixy type stuff

That twin inductor circuit sounds pretty cool as well with some thick and crazy sweeps. Priced quite nicely too

Sounds like my short list is the RMC-1 or 3, or the Whine-O-Wah currently

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

I've tried Morley's before and while the pedal design with the switchless on/off has its benifits, I didn't like having to keep my foot on the pedal as I like to be able to use the wah as a filter as well.

Additionally while the Morley did sound good, it didn't really do too well in nailing the Hendrix vibe or that 70's funk. Sounded very modern to me, more of a shredders or metal wah.

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

I LOVE the sound of the Teeses I've heard. I'm eventually going to get a Picture Wah I think.

Even though I've got my beloved RMC-1, that's exactly what I would be wanting to get next, Luke. The Picture Wah is just a hunk of burnin' funk.

Man, your non-boosted RMC-1 sounds sooo nice I thought maybe I should try one of those too....thing is I live in Arkansas so there is no Teese dealer here.
:(

Hearing Christian's over the phone and Tenley Ellis' makes me pretty confident I'd be happy with a picture wah.

OH and by the way, you sound AMAZING with that Octron!

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

The Teese line all does sound quite impressive from the clips I've heard.

I think I'm going to give the Whine-O-Wah a try first however, in part because its nearly $150 cheaper than the RMC-3, and more importantly, because it seems all the dealers are out of stock on Teese wah's right now. So I'll give the SD's a try first and can always return it if I don't like it and then try the Teese, provided someone has some stock by then.

The Whine-O-Wah may just be something of a sleeper wah though. I sure never heard of it before but what I was able to hear sounded pretty cool. Very, very deep and thick at its lowest settings and one heck of a screaming wah tone. Might be a bit overkill in some applications so who knows, maybe I'll end up with both on the board LOL

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be sure to post some impressions once I get one.

Definatly got to get me one of those Octron's too Luke. That thing just sounds unreal!

Re: Suggestion for wah pedal

I own a Dunlop 535Q with a Fasel inductor in it. It's super fat, got a wide range, an way awesome.

Vox's with Fasels in them are also way cool, slightly more throaty, sharper flavor.

As for Morely, the Mark Tremonti wah was surprisingly good! Good cutting, vocal, all-around powerful sound.
