Suggestions for new gear for me

I haven't bought new gear really in about 2 years!

I wanna a tube amp that will get those glossy, glassy bell like tones to cover stuff like jazz, blues. I also like the clean tone in the "Wind Cries Mary", by Jimmi Hendrix. The lightly distorted tones of Radiohead in songs like "Blackstar" and "High And Dry", The Killers in the song "On Top". I don't want a metal crushing amp. All sweet clean glassy crystal tone.

Though I think a stompbox for OD I should get for the lightly distorting tones, or whenever I wanna crank Texan Blues. The Ibanez Tube Screamer sounds a little noisy and hissy though. I like the creamy light distorted tones of a vox ac-30 with some gain.

My guitar I use is a fender strat with a maple neck and poplar body, i'm not extremely sure though. I have a Seymour Duncan jb. jr. in the bridge. Will these be ok for light and nice Radiohead, goo goo dolls, Dave Matthews rock? I play some Jimmi Hendrix sometimes as well. What neck pickup should go in place? Thanks, but i'm trying to see what I want for Birthday that's coming up.

Also the clean tone of Jack Johnson on F-stop blues and the bluesyclean stuff john mayer played on the chapelle show when it showed how the white people reacted to it in the business meeting, where the lady takes her top off

thanks!

Re: Suggestions for new gear for me

Well, congratz on the first post in the Gear Room since the new forum started!

I'd say a small tube combo like a Laney VC-30 or LC-15 or 30, or a Peavey Classic 20 or 30 would be right up your alley, just run dist pedals for your dirt.

Re: Suggestions for new gear for me

BTW, the Laney VC-30 is voiced slightly after the AC-30, with brighter cleans, and run for about 400 used.

Re: Suggestions for new gear for me

sounds like, well as far as cleans, a vintage marshall

for od, ds-1 should work, i can give you a parts list to make it either a lot creamier, or a little creamier, and enhance the bass & mids

Re: Suggestions for new gear for me

is valvetronix any good? i tried it out last year in a guitar center up in austin
i couldnt really tell how good it was since it was pretty noisy up in there
from what i heard it wasnt too bad

YOu should be aware of the differences between some of the Fenders. The Twin Reverb is rated at 80 watts. This Amp will stay clean at just about any volume. If you want the Amp to Overdrive on its own, it would be best to get an Amp that has less power. The Headroom in the twin is very high.

The Deluxe has just the opposite problem. At 22 watts it is hard to keep it clean at reasonably low volumes. IMO this is one of the best all around Amps you can buy. If the volume goes over 5 it is real ballsy and if you turn the volume down on the guitar it cleans up real well. If the volume gets over 7 it tends to get muddy.

The Super Reverb, The Vibrolux, or the Pro Reverb are also all good choices. The Super is my personal favorite of Fender Amps. At 40 watts and 4 10" speakers it offers a lot of flexability. The Pro is very close to the Super. The Vibrolux or the Vibroverb have a little more power, and will offer a larger amount of headroom because of the added power. Take your time and play through as many different Amps as needed to make the right decision for you.
