I think I'm going to get the bridge pickup in my Nighthawk rewound. It is just not doing it for me. To my ears it is weak, lacks character, and lacks the dynamics I want. I just want to get some suggestions on what you guys think would be good for me, and what you guys like. I love the JB, but I'm not sure I want another one. This is my #2 guitar and I'm looking for something different. I was think about getting it rewound to '59 specs, but I have yet to play a '59b. I used to have a Demon though- pretty close, right? I have no experience the Customs, or much else. I pretty much stick with what I like, but I want something different.
Specs: The Nighthawk has a mahogany body and neck, with a 1/4" maple cap, 25.5" scale. It is brighter than a Les Paul, darker than an alder Strat.
There is a minhumbucker in the neck that is REALLY warm, so I I would like a good match for that. It should sound good split by its self, and split in series with the the split minihum (got that?). I love the harmonics of the JB, the mids of the Demon and P-90. I like the twang of a clean PAF, but that is not the main concern for me. It would have to do well under high gain, good articulation. Maybe a PG?
As you can see, the pickup is dual slug. The bridge side slugs are larger than the neck side. They are abotu the size of a Duncan QP strat slug. Any suggestions? Thanks for any and all replies.
