I recall Gary using an xxx on some of the albums without souza- did a quick search: http://exodusattack.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11138

I also recall before his signature pickups he used a guitar with emg selects in it - I think that was on their comeback album (TOTD). [edit, after reading the link below, my memory was wrong, it was HZs not selects]

Maybe get revalver if you want a virtual xxx?

In my opinion, the guy sitting in the booth with the EQ is what makes the album sound like what it sounds like.
