On an Agathis-bodied guitar, for smooth plain strings and snappy wound strings, I recommend the SD Five-Two for Stratocaster. These are going to put the Squier OEM HB to shame. This is why I believe that you need to think about changing the HB also. The Pearly Gates Plus would be a good starting point to provoke other forum members into giving better suggestions.
EDIT: If you are on a limited budget, what about Duncan Designed PUs? The DD P-90 clones on the Squier Telecaster Custom II sound fantastic. Well beyond expectations for a guitar of its price! If your Squier Fat Strat has generous pickup cavities, you should have room for a P90 in the neck position. What could be bluesier than that?
Bluesbend,
could you clarify those three pu's. I'm new to this and dont quite get it.
PG b ...I know what the PG is but whats the b?

SSL-5 is a single coil pickup for Strat which is hot enough to compliment a humbucker.
The Quarter Pound is also a single coil for Strat hot enough for pairing with a humbucker, it has moer of a P-90 tone to it though which sounds great at the b (bridge) position.
n- neck, m- middle, b- bridge
I have a parts'o Strat that I have the above mentioned neck and mddle p'ups in, I have a '59 at the bridge though.
Someone said its Agathis? If it is then I'd recommend looking for something that is advertised to have lower string pull and good sustain. I mean that is if you are having problems with that. Agathis is considered the "poor mans mahogany". It sounds like mahogany as in its a warm wood but in my opinion has really horrible sustain. Agathis definitely needs a good set up pickups to match with its lack of sustain.
Honestly if that is the stock humbucker I'd get a new one too. If you go and get some sweet new single coils you might find that stock Squire OEM bucker not up to par. I'd try an A2P because it does have some good sustain and I used to have them in my LP and it covers a lot of rock and blues ground for sure. Another option would be some of Dimarzios AirBuckers. For singles I would try to get one with an A2 mag just because they don't have as much effect on the strings as much as A5s do. They will get you a little more sustain if you position them the same height as an A5 single coil. Just a few things to consider if you are having sustain problems. If you aren't then your options are wide open.
