Suhr Classic Pro SSS - Can't Stand the V60LP Pickups

hi

I've had the Suhr for a while - i can't bond with it at all.

Construction is fantastic, but the tone is absolutely off for me.

My current fave configurations:

Other Strat: Lil 59 / SSL-3 / Dimebucker - i know, ceramics, but the mid SSL-3 sounds great with them

Telecaster - Bare Knuckle Pile Drivers

Archtop - 59 neck / Alternative 8 bridge

so, you can see i prefer higher output, not necessarily for the CHUG, but i love the articulation and crisp cleans.

the Suhr is listed for sale, but i would consider a pickup replacement.

Something along the lines of what i've listed.

I've been recommended Bare Knuckle Trilogy or Rio Grande Dirt Harrys.

thoughts on a Duncan set?

thanks!

what about the CUSTOM STAGGERED STRAT- CALIBRATED SET SSL-5 CAL S?

those look like high output and still single coil tone.

They have about the output of a P90, but are much thicker sounding than both a P90 or regular single coil. Might not be a good choice for 'articulation and crisp cleans' though.

i'm torn with this.

i had an older Strat that i put a prewired guard in that had a SSL5 (bridge), SSL1 (middle), SSL1 (neck) with a switch to pair the neck and bridge.

it really was lovely.

i sold it (of course).

but i'm thinking if that config would give the Suhr enough of a remake to keep it.

not high output across the board, but from memory, a smoother and "chimier" response than the V60s.

Well, that's a great set, too. If your guitar has a pickguard, you can wire up another one and swap out as you need it. But you might switch pickups and find you eventually don't like the guitar- it happens. But I think a pickup swap is a good idea to start.
