Suitable pickup configuration for Hohner G3T

I currently own a Hohner G3T headless guitar with Steinberger Tremolo and HSS pickup configuration (look at http://www.hohnerusa.com/gguitarheadless.htm). Since I've only played Les Paul guitars so far I encontered a few problems with the EMG pickups the guitar comes with.
Though the bridge humbucker serves my style quite well (I play rock and blues in a ZZ TOP coverband), the neck and middle single coils are rather weak. They don't sound bad though, just the volume output is too low.
This leads to volume problems when playing solos with the neck pickup in a blues song - it sounds much too gentle. I am about to change the pickups to Seymour Duncans, but I'm still lost regarding the suitable pickup configuration. I thought one TB-4 JB Trembucker and two SSL-1 Vintage Staggered Single Coils could be OK, but don't know yet. Is there anyone here who can help me figure out what to do best?

Personally, in a guitar like that, I would go with a Custom Custom in the bridge and a pair of Cool Rails in the neck and mid. That set should fatten it up all around and have good output balance in every position.

Meanwhile I thought about a similar configuration too. But why would you choose the SH-11 instead of the SH-5?

Re: Suitable pickup configuration for Hohner G3T

The Custom Custom has more low mids and rounder highs, which should fill up the mids in your Steinberger style guitar.

The JB has a spike in the high mids and the treble frequencies can be a bit harsh in a bright sounding guitar.

:burnout:

Some people love the Hot Rails, but I'm not a big fan. I feel they have too much output and not enough sparkle for music other than metal and harder rock.

I have hot rails in my MIM strat I like em alot but I usually play harder rock, when I play clean they don't sounds that bad but they do have a little over the top output when playing clean. I didn't want to modify my strat from a SSS to HH so I went with the hot rails.

I had a Steinberger (great guitar), and used the CC/cool Rails combo, and got a great sound. I really liked the chunk of the CC in there.

Re: Suitable pickup configuration for Hohner G3T

Meanwhile I listened to some pickup configurations and I must say that the suggested sh-11 + two scr-1 perfectly fits my style. Thanks everyone who got me on the right track, otherwise I would have been lost in the pickupd jungle...

But now another question arises: do I best use the sh-11 with traditional or trembucker spacing on the Hohner G3T headless guitar with Steinberger Tremolo (http://www.hohnerusa.com/gguitarheadless.htm)?
