Summer NAMM 2016 - Brand New Voodoo Amps Mid Drive

Hi all,
I did some amp demo'ing for Voodoo Amps at Summer NAMM last week. During this time we shot some iPhone video of the new amp designs.

This is the brand new Voodoo Mid Drive. As the name suggests it's not as high gain as some other amps out there (for instance, the Voodoo V-Rock which I'll post later).

Keep in mind this is 9a.m. at NAMM & the volume police are mighty wielders of the dreaded decibel meter LOL, so the amp was nowhere near cranked.

I'm playing a '92 MIM Fender Stratocaster that is Duncan Forum relevant as it's loaded with Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge, Classic Stack in the middle and Vintage Stack in the neck. You may see some pedals on the floor - only the Boss DD-6 is running through the Mid Drive's tube effects loop. The other pedals aren't in the signal path at all.

Notice how, even at low volume it's relatively easy to coax some sweet feedback, as well as the harmonics just jumping off the fretboard. Also notice how sweet it cleans up when rolling back the volume pot.

I hope you enjoy!

That's quite a bit of gain on tap for an amp called a Mid Drive, but that's a good thing. I like amps where optimum high gain is with a maxed gain knob. It gives a lot more lower gain range from 3 - 7.

It's also refreshing to hear a demo guy who can wield. haha

Thank you Gearjoneser!

That was my thought too, about the abundance of gain. But it's a little deceptive in that it's not as gainy as it sounds, yet it's incredibly smooth and easy to play on. Tube effects loop, 50/100 watt switch. It's just an all around badass tone machine!

Is that striped tolex, or black tweed? It almost looks like lacquered black tweed.

What's the street price?

Clips sound pretty tasty!! this one sounds pretty ballsy considering its a "mid drive". Ive heard the voodoo amps are good. I watched a you tube vid of one of their Jose modded marshalls and didn't think it sounded better than some of their other amps. Kinda surprised cuz I love the Jose modded marshall tone and Ive heard Trace does about the best job at it.. Everytime I hear the voodoo demos, my "WANT" light goes haywire!! Would be VERY hard to chose tween a Voodoo amp or a Friedman Browneye if I had the cash to layout for one...

The Voodoo stuff is the real deal. The tone is one thing. The feel of the amps, how it feels to play them is an otherworldly experience.

I saw that video the other day on Facebook, it gave me G.A.S! Sounds great and great playing too!

I WILL have one of those.....

Great choice of pickups, there! I dig the video, but I thought it was going to have less gain, too! Great playing!

First and foremost, last night I read Gearjoneser's post first, and then I watched the video. He nailed it on the head!! And then second off, I was like....Holy Crap, Man!! Who is this frukkin' dude playin? He's got some of the tastiest chops that I've not only heard in years, but he plays like the way I wish I could....lol.

So I looked you up on the computer. I watched the V Rock video, but I thought you totally slammed on this video. I'm not sure if it is the video recorded with the phone, his moving around, the way the amp naturally sounds, or just your fantastic style of playing, but just by listening, if anyone would have told me that was a JB, I probably would have smacked them and told them they were and idiot....lol. You have a great way of making that JB sound like a JB should, doesn't, but apparently does....lol

Thanks for your kind words everyone! The Voodoo Mid Drive really is all that. I can't wait to get my hands on one!

Re: Summer NAMM 2016 - Brand New Voodoo Amps Mid Drive

I really like this amp, but think if Im going to purchase one, Id probably get one of the higher gain models.

Re: Summer NAMM 2016 - Brand New Voodoo Amps Mid Drive

Sounds fantastic!! I'd love to play one of these and see how it compares to a Dirty Shirley (my favorite amp for mid-gain stuff). Kickazz chops, too, man! Thanks for putting this on my radar!

More spam.
I'm sure these amps are great and all, but enough of the posts about voodoo and you are just pretending to be a fan.
If you just came clean about your relationship to the company then no big deal.

Wow! What is the bug in your ass about me posting videos regarding Voodoo Amps? They're great amps, I AM a fan of them, I don't work for the company, I don't get free gear, I pay for the stuff I have. Over the years I have become friends with Trace, the owner of Voodoo, and he's given me artist pricing on the stuff (not free). That's the extent of it.

Your continued dissing on my posts does nothing more than make you look like a giant ******bag. If you don't wanna see 'em, don't click on 'em..

Thanks for your kind words. I've never played on a Dirty Shirley, I bet they're kick ass though!

You should check out the Voodoo V-Rock, really high gain, all of it usable (meaning it doesn't flub out as the gain is turned up) and great tone. I'll post a video of that one in a few days (that should make Gibson175 REALLY happy LOL).

There it is.
This kind of stuff is worth mentioning if you don't want to come off as a spammer or salesman.
