It's a flamed maple top on black korina, finished in nitrocellulose, with period correct analine dyes. The neck is padouk, singlepiece, with a slim J-taper (yes, J-taper), with an ebony board with real pearl inlay. Ebony headstock cap, recessed padouk trussrod cover and padouk backplates. Hipshot locking tuners, Hipshot aluminium stoptail and aluminium bridge with steel saddles. Seymour Duncan Alnico2Pro 'Slash' signature.

Hope you enjoy :)

Very nice, but what the hell is a J-taper?

Also, how's the Hague - still scorching outside?

well, not scorching. It's pouring. We've had rains here for weeks now and I'm kinda done with it :P

A J-taper. good question. The cross section of the neck is shaped like a J. Not a C, not a D or V, but J. there's a bit more beef off centre parallel to the A string rather than in the exact middle. It allows for the faster feel of a thin neck without the sacrifice of actually shaving down the neck super thin. this one is 21mm on the nut, 22mm on the 12th fret, but compared to the customer's Carvin with the same thickness and nut width, this one feels a lot sleeker due to the profile.

Gorgeous build. Should age nicely with the nitro and analine dyes. What the neck thickness? I know you like 1" necks.

How's the Paudok/Ebony neck compare to say mahogany/Indian Rosewood or even Brazilian for that matter? I'm looking into a similar build minus the maple top and neck wood. Thinking wenge or Indian rosewood w/ Ebony.

Nice build.

But was that your first choice bridge??? I just ask as it looks almost like the bridge holes were drilled too far back and you needed all the travel to accommodate for that.

Re: Sunburst, Alnico2Pro, woodporn. ToneChaser Standard '1959'.

Beautiful! Korina body and an asymmetrical neck profile, too... Thin body, natural binding, unbound fretboard. Like a deluxe SC245.
If I were having a guitar custom built for me, it would be a lot like that one. I love korina.
I bet it's lighter than a Les Paul too- what does it weigh, a little under 3½ kilos?
What is the light-colored layer in between the ebony and padauk?

Hey, no that's likely an optical illusion. The bridge location is correct but I installed the hipshot under an angle for the classic look and used the saddles to intonate. There's just a lot of travel in that bridge. If a normal TOM would be used it would still work just fine :)

Hey, thanks man :) happy to make you a new one if you want?

This one has a full thickness body, not thinner (but I can do that if you want). She's 3.6kg because of that. No chambering...

The light stripe is a contrasting pinstripe which I do on almost all of my guitars. It's like my thing I guess...

Good question.

Padouk and ebony gives you the warmth of a mahogany neck with ebony board but with a superb feel (no finish required!) And with better articulation. More warmth? Ziricote or Pau ferro board. No more rosewood due to cites.

The customer asked for a thin neck (I stated the dimensions in the last paragraph ;) ). Like a 60ies slim taper but with an asymmetrical profile. Very slender. Too much for my personal taste.

Gorgeous...if I had to critique it, the electronics covers need to either be black or match the body better than they do.

Re: Sunburst, Alnico2Pro, woodporn. ToneChaser Standard '1959'.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting. That's more or less what I'm looking for. Similar tone of Mahogany/Ebony, but something that doesn't require a finish and feels great.

That's of course personal taste. I could have done wenge (dark colored wood, like chocolate) but the customer and I opted to match the material with the neck wood. Neck, backplates and trussrod cover are all of the same material. But that's a personal choice :)

Warmth? Wenge, rosewood, ovangkol, padouk. Those work great and need no finish. Ziricote is cool too but expensive.

I hear you....it just sticks out like a sore thumb that doesn't belong...to me, anyway....to each their own. It's a gorgeous piece of work regardless.

Re: Sunburst, Alnico2Pro, woodporn. ToneChaser Standard '1959'.

Awesome build! How do you like the Hipshot bridge & tailpiece? Been looking st maybe picking up a set, but can't find any real reviews. Certainly seems great in theory!

I absolutely love the hipshot set. Easy to install, buzz and rattle free, superlightweight and just pretty. Good stuff.

I added a few pics in the opening post for laughs n giggles.

Re: Sunburst, Alnico2Pro, woodporn. ToneChaser Standard '1959'.

Gotta say, not a fan of the bridge, aesthetically. But that's nitpicking because that is a really beautiful guitar. Scrape body binding and rolled fretboard edges? Looks like it. If so, right up my alley along with the lack of weight relief. And the finish ... the color is rich and "warm". Really gorgeous.
If I had money to burn I'd ask you to swap the bridge and ship it to me. Even with the neck profile being an unknow. I think that's my favorite of what I've seen you post. Wish I was wealthy.

Thanks for the compliment :) its indeed a rolled FB erge, clearcoat binding and so on. Fortunateky, this one is easily remade ;) a lot cheaper than you might have expected.
