Super D in bridge, neck options?

Re: Super D in bridge, neck options?

Another thought, if you want the same look as a super d and a touch darker than paf pro, try a Breed neck.

There used to be a DiMarzio "Classic Rock" humbucker set, super D and Paf 36th neck. You really cant go too wrong with a super D and any variety of neck paf.

The Super 2 is a little brighter, but it matches well with the Super D. If you want less output but a little warmer, try a Breed.

I’ve also used the bluesbucker neck. It’s really round and well, bluesy. Maybe an option to look at too?

I’m telling ya, you will not be disappointed
with the DiMarzio Liquifire. Read up on it!

I'm leaning that way after listening to some more Dream Theatre. But of course Petrucci's perfect hands are most of the allure lol.

Musician's Friend is having a sale where many Dimarzio pups are 20% off. Welp, may have to get 2 pups!

My favorite match for the Super D is the original DiMarzio PAF (it also may be my favorite neck pickup ever), but they sadly don't make it anymore.

The best neck match for the Super Distortion is another Super Distortion, IME/IMO. It's a great combo. No need to wire it in parallel, but you can put that option on a switch if you'd like. Between pickup height and the 12 adjustable pole pieces, Super Ds have tons of adjustment range for tone and output.

Re: Super D in bridge, neck options?

Are you looking for a hum or single coil? Sounds like most replies are hum buckers but some of the single coils claim to have pretty hot outputs like the SD quarter pounder. That may not match tonally but if you looking for a hum then a single coil won't work regardless.

Gonna try a Super Distortion in the bridge as it's a long overdue pup choice. I'd like a neck that gives somewhat fat lead tones, but not too dark. Maybe something with some glassy quality to cut through? I know the PAF Pro is popular, not sure if it fits my description though.

Can't say for sure what this will go in, I've got options ;) It'll be 24 fret, but not sure the scale length, either 24.75 or 25.5. I'll play mostly high gain rock and metal. Clean tones are't a big concern, juicy lead ones are.

Thanks!

Considering he says "I know the PAF Pro is popular, not sure if it fits my description" we don't have any reason to think he's looking at a single coil. ;)

Hum with thick juicy, but not muddy and dull lead tones. Something with a nice tone split or parallel would be a nice bonus.

Fwiw I love my Hot Rails in the neck position of a super start style guitar.
