Super Distortion in a Strat - ash or alder body?

I am looking to get a DiMarzio SD in the bridge of a Fender Strat but am not sure what wood will suit it best. The American series HSS strat is available in alder and ash so I can choose between the two. So has anyone played a SD in either of these woods? What is the difference in sound and what do you recommend? Thanks.

I had one in my ash Strat and it sounded pretty sweet. It`s a very fat sounding pickup with balanced lows and mids. Thru my rig I never usually have trouble with ice pick treble and it was no different with the Super Distortion. I much preferred over the Duncan Distortion.

Is one of my favourite pickups of all the time. I have it on alder strats.

I believe when Dave Murray of Iron Maiden had a Super Distortion in his Strat, it was an ash-bodied Strat.

Either wood will be fine!

Thanks for the replies guys.

The Fender HSS strat is available in ash but only in the sienna sunburst colour, and I would prefer it in black which is only available as an alder body, so I think I'll go for alder. Looking forward to getting this Strat now and getting the SD in it!

Thanks guys :)
