Not really. if you want a Dimarzio set, you might be better off with something like the PAF Pro or even the virtual PAF at the neck. If you don't mind mixing, It seems to me that Duncan's APH would mix well with the Super D, as would the Pearly Gates.

I think boomy is deffinatly the way to describe it. I found it to be clear but not in a nice way, sort of like plugging a guitar strait into a computer and adding a gain boost.

There is a neck version of the super Distortion, which is named "Super 2".
It has aroun 8-9k, the same magnet and has lot of output. But not muddy.

The Super Distortion is a high-output pickup that is designed specifically for the bridge position. If you want clarity, it is ALWAYS a mistake to put a high output pickup in the neck position because it is "boomy and undefined" as others have said, which is to say PURE MUD...
As a rule of thumb, any pickup that measures much over 8.0k is more than likely going to be a lousy neck pickup. The resonant peak (in other words, treble response) of pickups wound that hot is just too low to compensate for the tons of bass and low mids you get naturally from the neck position.

But there are some exceptions:
The Duncan Distortion neck is about 12k and not muddy.
The Stag Mag is 16k and a wonderful neck pickup.

Usually pickups that are darker in the bridge will not to well in the neck especially if they are high output IMO.
THere are some pickups that can work in the neck...PAF Pro is one of them but I can't think of too many more that don't have a specific neck version of the pickup.

Never tried the DD neck but I'm curious how it can be wound that hot and still work as a neck pu. Apparently it does but I don't know why. Is it the same size (height-wise) as your average humbucker?
A guy came to me with an SG that had Super Distortion-like pickups in it, except that they were black and apparently not DiMarzios. They both measured over 12k but their output was surprisingly weak. He wanted to replace them with a set of 59's he brought with him so I did the transplant and the 59's were a lot louder and clearer and that SG sounded great.
On closer examination, I noticed that these DiMarzio-like pickups were about 3/4" taller than the 59's and from this I theorized that with the magnet that much farther away from the strings, it would weaken the output considerably.
I wonder if the Stag Mag is wired in parallel...but then again if it was, it wouldn't read 16k, would it? Hmmm... The magnets are Alnico 2 rod mags but the fact that it's Alnico 2 wouldn't make the difference by itself. Maybe these Alnico 2 rod mags are aged or otherwise weakened...

I've got a DD in the neck of my Fake Les Paul (with a Custom in the Bridge). You've got to crank it down pretty far to balance with the Custom, but it sounds great.

I tried it, very muddy and didn´t "sing" at all.
But i doesnt really llike it in the bridge either to be honest.
