Super Distortion or Tone zone?

Aloha guys,

Gonna put 'buckers in 2 of my strats, one is an ash body strat, and the other one an alder body. Both have maple necks.
Need your input on this: Dimarzio SD or TZ for both? Or TZ in one, SD in the other? If so, what pup in what guitar?

I'm new in the field of pickups, so feel free to suggest anything that comes in mind, or educate me :p

:thanks:

Re: Super Distortion or Tone zone?

Super D in Ash Strat VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tone Zone in Alder Strat...because Alder + Tone Zone = Awesome

Re: Super Distortion or Tone zone?

what kind of sound are you going for? what kind of players/bands do you want to sound like?

This...one of each. You can always swap them between the guitars to see where they fit best, by the way.

Re: Super Distortion or Tone zone?

either of these will be a good choice for you. i say get both. if you dont like one of them use dimarzios 21 day return

Re: Super Distortion or Tone zone?

I just recently discovered the Tone Zone. I have one in a Les Paul's bridge. The verdict is still out, but so far I'm liking it! Gonna gig with it this weekend.......I've tried and tried but never cared for the Super Distortion. Something I find unpleasantly "gritty" about it.....

Re: Super Distortion or Tone zone?

I've never used the TZ but I got nothing but praise for my Super Distortion

Re: Super Distortion or Tone zone?

Hear that? That's the sound of a Super Distortion in a RG and a Tone Zone in a Talman.

Get both.

The TZ is more thick and compressed than the SuperD. The openess of the super D may be the cause of the 'grit' you don't dig.

You'll like the TZ better, I'd say.
