Super Glue chip repairs.

I have been playing around with this method on my friends shadow guitar. It had a huge 1'' wide down to the wood chip that i have stained/filled with the super glue. It's amazing how you can polish it right up like the poly finish. This chip is large so it's taking a few fills but im almost there now.

I have a few chipped guitars of my own that i will be doing this with.

Who here has tried this?

Re: Super Glue chip repairs.

Superglue does an awesome, invisible job on acrylic finishes because it's acrylic-based. When I've used it for poly repairs it's still really good but if you look closely it doesn't blend like it does with acrylic, you can see the edges of the repair (have to look very closely though).

For nitro, use nail polish, as they are nitro-based and will make a seamless repair.

Re: Super Glue chip repairs.

mmmm ^^^^^ On a big one like this it is going to be noticeable :(. But it will be a heap better than the how it was and i b

This was after i filled it once. That large white line you see is actually the undercoat, The poly finish is the thickest i have ever come across. Unfortunately i didn't get the before pics but when i do my guitar i will.

After the second fill i thought i had ****ed it :werd:

Luckily after some more drying time, Sanding, scrapping and polishing it came good.

I have another layer drying now

I don't think this method is perfect for damage this big but it will work.

To be continued.

Looks good...but still a bit lumpy at the side there.. will be interesting to see what it's like when it's 100% done. :bigthumb:

I actually fixed my BC Rich Ironbird (rear 'point' knocked off) with some black epoxy putty and then used a car "touch up" kit to finish the job...it ended up totally indistinguishable from the rest of the guitar...you can't even tell it was repaired from close up now.
