SO i have this really compulsive desire to get a super - strat but im not sure which to get.
So if anybody has any input i would really appreciate it.
The dilemma is i haven't gotten my hands on the Charvel or Gary Kramer and i read some horror stories about GKG gary kramer. So any legit input would be great

I have narrowed it down to

1. http://www.ibanez.com/ElectricGuitars/model-RG1550M

2. http://www.charvel.com/production-models/ So-Cal model

3. and a gary kramer U.s crusader http://www.garykramerguitar.com/StockModels.html

Re: Super-strat help me please!

I've always loved Japanese Ibanez and have no reservations about recommending those as great guitars in their own right. I've played some fairly recent Prestige models and thought they were as good as my 90's RG500-series guitars, maybe better.

I recently played a Japanese Charvel, a San Dimas style Pro-Mod, and it was amazing. It's a pretty different kind of guitar from the Ibanez -- fat neck (with seemingly no finish at all on the back), big heel, non-recessed Floyd, but the quality and feel were terrific. Just a very, very solid guitar from what I could tell. If the USA models are worth the extra money at all, then… yeah… those too.

I don't have any experience with the GKG.

So if it came down to Ibanez vs. Charvel, I'd say you've gotta get your hands on a Charvel and see if it's you're thing. Compared to the Ibanez it might seem a fair amount less "shreddy", but it's more in the vein of a traditional superstrat and seems like one hell of a hard-rocking guitar. Honestly, I kinda want both. I'd also be curious to see what the Gary Kramers are like.

Re: Super-strat help me please!

The So Cal Pro Mods really are great guitars. I didn't think that there was much difference between the US and Japanese ones to be honest. They do have a big heel, if that bothers you . . . and the trem is not recessed (you can still pull up as well as down, but there's a little less range though). The neck is very comfortable, and unlike most Ibanez necks it doesn't cramp my hands when playing a lot of barre chords.

Re: Super-strat help me please!

I'd go for the Ibanez. Easy to play, versatile pickup configuration, recessed tremolo. But Charvels are solid as hell, more than Ibbys actually...

Re: Super-strat help me please!

From what most folks are saying there is little to any difference between the Japanese and USA Charvel Pro Mods. Some things like rolled edges on the fret board (Japanese model) are really just preference. Both are excellent guitars, especially for the price. I have a USA made San Dimas style 2, so technically I have a Super Tele =).

Re: Super-strat help me please!

It's between the Ibby and the Charvel for me. Both play phenomenally but are very different guitars. I think you get a little more out of the Ibby but I'd seriously recommend getting out and trying both.

Re: Super-strat help me please!

Both are great! Its going to be a matter of preference.. If you like a super thin neck, then the Ibanez. If not, then the Charvel.. I normally like thin, but Ive developed carpal tunnel on my fretting hand from working with comps. But the Charvel has an extremely at home feel..

Not to plug something Im selling, but its a great super strat that is oft overlooked. Im selling a Washburn WM24. GREAT Player and tremendous value!!

Re: Super-strat help me please!

as much as i try to like them Ibanez is not one of my favourite brands... i do like their stuff but it's not my fav....

i do own a USA version of the Charvel So-Cal... it is a nice guitar... love the fact that the Floyd is a FRO design... when it comes to Floyds that design is my fav and getting parts for them is much easier then some of the trems out there... The Dimarzio's in teh So-Cal are killer....

one thing i was shock by is the really thin flat profile to the Charvel so-cal neck... my other Charvel is a 1987 Model 1a and that neck shape is really freak great! in a way that is the only thing i was the So-Cal had was a neck shape more like that old Japan Model 1.... The neck shape on this Charvel reminds me of my mid 90's Jackson Performer series Dinky... they seem close in spec to me... but i still love that So-Cal and it's nice buying a guitar i have no wish or need to mod at all... i think it's a killer axe for the bread...

i've been thinking of buying a green one from the new Imported So-Cal series...
