Re: Super Strats

Get yourself a S101 guitar. They make kickass strat copies and the sound is freaking amazing. The fat strats have that punchy yet clean humbuckers and the single coils give off an acoustic sound and they're just about $100. You can find them on ebay for less than $110. Totally worth it man.

I seen a few on ebay going for pretty cheap, but what would their quality be on par with?

Re: Super Strats

I bought one for $150 (Fat Strat) because it was customized with a Fender MIA body (They showed me the body and such). I played an original and I would say it comes close to a fender MIJ strat. Real good quality, but you might wanna change the neck. It feels weird and is made in china.

Re: Super Strats

Build u'rself a parts guitar tailored to u'r exact needs. Now that would be a super strat.

Re: Super Strats

MM/EB Silhouette Special or SUB1..both are certainly more 'super' than a regular ol strat.

I highly agree with the Silo Special... or even the Axis. You can find 'em on ebay for around that much. KILLER guitars.

Re: Super Strats

Ibanez RG and then swap out the pickups for something you prefere, thats if you want a thin neck and a floyd.

Re: Super Strats

Ibanez or Fender MIA with a pup swap can be had new for the $ you are looking for.

Also used Jackson, or perhaps a brand new Carvin? The Carvin super strats are nice. Lots of options/choices and you should be able to keep it in that 800-900 range no prob unless you go nuts with exquisite woods. I would look hard at their "bolt" model.

Re: Super Strats

1980's Kramer Pacer Deluxe, banana headstock era (84-85?). Alder body, Floyd Rose, and came stock with a Duncan JB bridge and SSL1's in the middle and neck positions.

Re: Super Strats

any jackson MG series.. and sometimes also an USA select dinky. dont count on getting a soloist at that.

or the jackson SL3 (i think) HSS soloist, it's also in that budget frame used

Re: Super Strats

Don't discount G&L. They make amazing guitars for the money. Anything made after the early '90s has a swimming pool route so that a humbucker can be thrown in place of a single coil and finding pickguards to accompany the humbucker isn't difficult at all. If you look carefully, you can find them for under $500 and the build quality is very good. I picked up my main guitar, the Skyhawk, for $350 on eBay.

Kramer and Charvel make quality guitars, but you either need to buy a higher end model today or purchase a used 80s instrument to get the quality. Carvin seems to have been consistant quality wise. However, I'd buy one used because the resale value is crud on them and I'm sure you could get a good buy for dirt cheap.

Then check out a G&L Legacy Deluxe - rear routed, no pickguard, SSH configuration, push pull volume knob to split the rear HB, flamed tops, variety of nice finishes, one piece body with a book matched maple top, locking tuners, great trem - and I've seen them used on ebay for around a grand.

Yeah, the PGM 301 is a cool axe... I tried it and had to belt out "Down to Mexico" :D

Hardtails rock, and the F-holes on the PGM look great.

Have a look at this site www.pgmsite.com for all the crazy coloured models :laugh2:
