Surf Guitar Humbucker Pickup?

I have a bright guitar and put in it a Dimarzio VHPAF w/a swapped magnet, taking the A5 mag out and putting in a dun aged Duncan A2 mag from an antiquity bridge HB. Left it "aired"

The overall feel is a nice and soft A2 feel, but overall the treble strings are too bright and ice-picky.

I want to use it for Dick Dale style surf music so need a clean sound.

I could put a 250K pot in I suppose, but the bass strings sound fine and need the treble for definition.

Any ideas?

I personally love to play a bit of surf from time to time, but would never use a humbucker unless was split. Are you sure you don't want to go the coil splitting route? There is just something about the response of a single coil with that fast picking that sounds perfect, I've never gotten that sound from a humbucker myself, but maybe someone else has.

You are probably right, but that increases the treble. But maybe that with a 250K pot and tone control. . . .

250 pot sure wouldn't hurt. I personally love a fat high output pickup (Custom 8 or Duncan Distortion for example) split. The split output is just right and the Custom 8 for example, has an alnico 8 magnet and absolutely no issues with too much treble when split. An a8 mag in your VHPAF should help tone down the treble and boost the output so it isn't so bright and thin when split.

i would put the 250k pot in and see where you are at. i think youll be close to where you want to be.
