Surfy Jag Samples!!!

Re: Surfy Jag Samples!!!

Sounds great.

I've always thought they were kinda neat, but they top shelved the ones in my local store because kids kept coming in picking it up, thinking it was a Mustang and playing Nirvana riffs very very badly.

On the top shelf the kids have to ask, which they are afraid to do because they are bad at guitar. Thus they pick up a guitar which is cheaper (I believe someone actually damaged one of the Jags) and has a statistically lower chance to have kids subconsiously play Nirvana.

Er.. yeah, thats my store of the day. Nice tone, and guitar (by 'blackface model' do you mean on like.. a Vox Valvatronix or on some overall effects processor?)

Re: Surfy Jag Samples!!!

you're lucky you have shops with jags up there :laugh2:

Thanks for your support. It's always appreciated :D

Re: Surfy Jag Samples!!!

Nice, it's about time I heard what a Jag can do. What are you playing it through? I especially like the use of wammy, I have a hardtail lp so I'm kind of lacking in the jangly surf tone.

There's a vintage guitar shop a bit north of St Paul that has a bunch of pretty clean Jags and Jazzmasters just hanging on the wall. Unfortunately, the owner doesn't seem to seriously consider selling them as they are mounted horizontally to the floor above all of the other guitars (all vintage and expensive).

Re: Surfy Jag Samples!!!

Speaking of Jags and Jazzmasters...I saw (and heard) one of the worst Jags ever the other day. At the local beach, they have bands playing every week, so me and my friends in my band went down to check it out (Maybe get my idiot bassist motivated to practice :laugh2: ), and saw a band coming out. The guy had a Jag and a Fender DeVille, so I thought immediately, cool maybe this is a surf band. The guy steps up, turns the reverb up all the way, then steps on about 5 distortion pedals, and starts playing bad rhythm guitar and screaming into the mic. It was the most ghastly wailing you could ever think of. Luckily, the pedals died on him and they left the stage. My eardrums are safe for another day :fingersx:

Re: Surfy Jag Samples!!!

Amp is a Vox AD30VT again ;) I actually like the thick distortion the Jag gives... I recorded some samples a while ago. the twang makes it really well defined :smokin: but if something's often worth doing it's not worth overdoing :laugh2:

If I can get some time I'll do some neck pickup samples, which is where I think the Jag REALLY excels

Re: Surfy Jag Samples!!!

wow, pipeline sounds awesome with the jag. I hear the twang you were telling me about. Sounds sweet. I'd like to hear the neck pup or bridge+neck sometime if you get the time.
