Surprise....How Old Do You Think This JB Is?

Couldn't sleep last night, so I got up around 3am and decided to replace a broken pot in my double fat strat. I would have sworn that I still had a CC/APH(n) in this guitar. SURPRISE !!!!!

Several years ago I either traded for or bought an older JB from someone here on the forum...can't remember who. There used to be lots of talk about how old JB's or other pups sounded better or at least different than new ones. I had completely forgotten that I installed it in my strat to find out (now I really wonder where my CC is and my other box of pickups and parts).

So anyhow...see the pics below. The only identifying mark on the pickup is the JB D sticker. That has to be one wound by Seymour himself. The baseplate has no markings at all....not made in USA, not Made In America, not even an SD logo...anywhere. The baseplate screws have started to oxidize a bit...as have one or two of the pole piece screws.

Anyone have any idea how old this has to be to not have any markings other than the sticker? Doesn't really matter to the value or sound...I was just wondering.

Jeff if i am not mistaken u not only have a older JB but one that was wound by Seymour himself hence the D initial after JB. Bach to rock or frank would know for sure.

Re: Surprise....How Old Do You Think This JB Is?

I dont want to spoil the party, but the D stands for Debbie Nyquist. Some of the initials stand also for the christian name, when the familiy name initial was already taken. Sorry!

Should be from round 1980 to 1983. In that area they had no backlogo and a tag with winder initial.

Thanks hamerfan. I searched the main duncan website because I thought a list like that was out there....but I couldn't find it.

Well, that was informative! I have a JBJ at home and was wondering a bit about it.

Oh well jeff even though seymour didnt wind it that still is a cool jb. I had one in my 84 kramer that mj wound and always thought it sounded better than the jb's of present? I was told that when duncan got the contract to make the pu's for the kramers mj got picked cause she had a magic touch winding pu's.
