I think Alder and Swamp Ash sound pretty close to each other.... The Swamp Ash to me has more of a snap to the sound.... It may have a bit more treble sound to it... Perfect Tele wood for sure!
A mahogany neck compared to a Maple neck i think would have slightly more low end to it..... not as bright sounding..... The feel is different too... The Mahogany necks to me feel lighter.... One of the nicest combos i have found is on my Godin Solidac.... it has a soft Maple body and a Mahogany neck.... great combo!!!!
