Swapping Magnets on a Strat Humbucker

I have a Tone Zone S pickup (the strat sized one, not the tradition Humbucker). I'm looking to swap the magnet to an A8 instead of the Ceramic that it currently has. Anyone know where to buy one? AddictionFX only has regular humbucker magnets

I don't think magnet swaps can be done for those SC-sized humbuckers. What's wrong with the pickup in terms of its present tone?

Where can I order a polished Alnico 8 for a full sized humbucker?

That measure of magnet can only be had in ceramics.

Sorry!

Has some shrill highs, A8 would warm that up

Is cutting a Humbucker sized magnet out of the question?

Cutting a magnet is pretty hard without proper tooling and I think you're also going to have a tough time opening up that Tone Zone S.

You might just want to get a new pickguard that fits a full sized humbucker if you want it a bit warmer.

So it isn't possible to just cut the magnet? Why? Do power tools mess up the magnetic charge?

What about P90 magnets or magnetic spacers? Axesrus us sell all kinds of magnets for pickups - look them up.

I think you are looking for blade magnets. Speak to Craig at axesrus- the sell kits to make your own S size Rails including magnets so they can probably sell you alnico 8 rail magnets

ALNICO magnets are hard to the point of brittle- you will end up with a pile of shards and possible going to the emergency department to get one out your eye.
Just buy a few then drop one on a hard tile floor...(don't ask how I know)

The heat generated will not-evenly degauss the cut side.

Plus, the magnet is double-thick... you can't just glue'em together as the same-charge will degauss each other in a matter of months.

Can't take no for an answer, can't you? ;)

Or in my experiment I could hear a difference after a couple of weeks

Axesrus sell hot rail magnets in all alnico types
Have you seen the prices? And in English Pounds? Have you seen the postage prices?

It'll be more affordable just to get a new p'up, mate.

Well, I am in UK so postage is ok. But eBay is cheaper

Vinnie: Good to know, never realized they're that brittle.

Double thick? I'm aware of degaussing effect, but i was talking about cutting them, not gluing them together?

I see, the heat could degauss them. Well that doesn't mean it can't be done, just that it's really diificult.

No, I won't take no for an answer ;) I never take opinion for a fact.

Cutting alnico magnets without the right skills and facilities just isn't going to happen. They will just splinter, crack or shatter.

Just look for hot rail magnets. Someone in the states must sell them. Axesrus can't be the only people in the world to sell them!

I had the same dilemma with my Maxon super 80s humbuckers - double size ceramic replaced with Alnico 8, but standard size so I used maple spacers to fill the gap and keep the magnet in place.
