Hey guys,

As my birthday nears, I've been thinking about how to spend this 'birthday cash.' And it's come down to this...

I tried out a Crate V58 Palomino for a while with a bunch of guitars and LOVED it. Definitely an excellent little amp, and EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'm thinking of picking up a used one to run in a rig with my Blues Junior. Using the BJ for all cleans and the Crate for the dirties (and possibly, if I get more money then I expected, get a pedal to boost the OD tones a little). I also will get some sort A/B pedal (Loooper?) so it will be one cool, easy-to-use set-up. I like the idea more every minute!

Only a few questions I hope someone could help me out with up...
1.) Is it at ALL possible to run the two amps together? My initial thought was to run the Line Out of the Crate into the input of the Blues Junior. I've never done this before, so I don't know if this is how it's done or could be done at all. Just sorta wondering.

2.) I've heard that the V58s sound even better with a good speaker and better tubes. What are some good tubes and speakers to check out? How much would these things run me cost-wise?

Thanks!!! I really appreciate it!

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

The only proper way to link two amps is to use a line out into the FX return of the other amp.

You could try using the line out into the Blues Jr's input jack, but you'd be doubling the preamp section on the 2nd amp. Might work, might not.

Dave at Avatar speakers is the cheapest source for speakers I've found.
Either Celestions or rebranded Celestions....Hellatones. Also, search for Lew's recent thread about the new Eminence speakers, like the Governor etc.

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Thanks man.

Bump for more!

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

You can get an a/b/y box to run them both together. Then you can switch between the two or turn them both on.

I agree with eric, go with an ABY.

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Maybe a G12H30 & some JJs ?

Marvar is selling a 12H30 for $50.00 in the trading post, which is pretty good:bigthumb:

Morley A/B/Y is about $40.00

JJs, maybe $10.00 each..........if anything, change V1 & the power tubes.

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Forgot to add:

Crate has an 8" speaker...

The plot thickens...

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Ive been pondering the idea of an ABY pedal too. Can you guys give a list of pedals and their ~price? The tonebone would be great, but i dont like the price tags on those dudes..

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

It seems to me that Looopers are the best for the price. That's what I'll probably looking at. You can customize it to what you need, and their cheaper then the Tonebones by a LOT.

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Oh and the Palomino has a 10" I believe, actually. Apologies.

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Here's my other new question:

Is two good amps better then one great one? Meaning, instead of buying the Crate and Loooper, would it be a better idea to sell the Blues Junior and add the money I had to get an AWESOME amp? I'd have about $600 to spend if I did that, possibly more. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

I apologize for all the questions guys, but I want to get a rig I'll have for a long time, and wanna make the best decision.

Thanks a ton!!!

Depends on if you love the tone of say the clean on the Blues Jr and the dirty on the Crate. If thats the case then yes! but if you found an amp that you liked everything about then no!

It's all down to preference!!!!!! :fingersx:

Definitely man, preference is the thing. It's not that I dislike the cleans on the Blues Jr., but my plan is if I don't do the Crate thing was to get a a nice clean amp, maybe a Bassman or a Music Man, most likely the latter, and then pick up a nice OD pedal.

The only thing I'm a bit scared/not sure about is if the whole Vox/Matchless thing that the Crate has going on is something I'd use a ton. I dig the tone, but I'm not sure if I dig it enough to have it be my ONLY dirty tone, which is why I thought of getting a nicer clean amp and a nicer OD pedal.

Sorta thinking out loud here. Apologies, once again...:nervous:

Actually the vintage cream colored version has a 10" and the newer versions are the black ones with 8" speakers. The older ones model is v8 I think those ones seem to be the better versions.

Re: Sweet rig idea, just a few questions!

Two amps can be very cool. A lot of people do it in the studio/stage to compliment each other like if one amp has killer highs and the other killer bass/mids. Or, a clean + dirty mix sounds really cool. Voodoo labs makes that Sparkle drive for just that purpose.

Pedals for switching...I think that the George Lynch Tripler pedal might be an interesting option. It's technically for three amps, but a y cable could work

1 = clean
2 = dirty
3 = dirty + boost (just stick a pedal in that loop and leave it on)
