Sweet. This feels pretty good....

I think i finally learned how to intonate my own guitars now. I'm pretty decent at just about everything else, but I've been holding back on all these mods i've had in mind because of insufficient fundage to pay a tech to go back and do a set up after i'm done.

I ordered a vintage replica all-steel trem block for my Hwy. 1 Strat and it came in the mail last wednesday. I waited around for almost a week wondering how i'll get the extra money to have my tech do it since it would have to be re-strung and set up anyway. Then i decided to research this whole intonation thing. Pfffttt! If i knew it was this easy, i'd have been doin it years ago!!

Anyway, tuesday night I got the block installed and strung it up and got everything set up with it, and i must say.... this thing is much much better!! With the old "cast" block, i remember that my low E string would fade out after just a few seconds after i pick the open E note. Now, i literally have to stop the damn string from sustaining!! I never realized before that the trem block could have such an impact on the overall feel of your Strat. I can actually feel the resonance coming through the body when i play it now! I still have everything else stock on this Strat and i think i'll keep it that way... I think the pickups have a pretty nice "vintage" tone to them.

Yay for me! I can do what 90% of you guys could do ages ago! Yippie!

It's a good feeling to know you don't have to pay someone for something so simple!

There's not much too intonation, most of what is required is patience!

Yeah that does feel pretty nice. I don't know if it's just something coincidental or what but when I put the saddles back on I set them all at about half way screwed in, and when i went to do the intonation every string was really close to being spot on. Luck maybe? Made my first shot at this alot easier!

Haha.. I did the same yesterday.. spent a while setting the intonation on my Godin, which was further off than I thought.

If you have the time + the tools, it's not really hard to do... as BB points out, all you need is patience (and a tuner)
