I think i finally learned how to intonate my own guitars now. I'm pretty decent at just about everything else, but I've been holding back on all these mods i've had in mind because of insufficient fundage to pay a tech to go back and do a set up after i'm done.
I ordered a vintage replica all-steel trem block for my Hwy. 1 Strat and it came in the mail last wednesday. I waited around for almost a week wondering how i'll get the extra money to have my tech do it since it would have to be re-strung and set up anyway. Then i decided to research this whole intonation thing. Pfffttt! If i knew it was this easy, i'd have been doin it years ago!!
Anyway, tuesday night I got the block installed and strung it up and got everything set up with it, and i must say.... this thing is much much better!! With the old "cast" block, i remember that my low E string would fade out after just a few seconds after i pick the open E note. Now, i literally have to stop the damn string from sustaining!! I never realized before that the trem block could have such an impact on the overall feel of your Strat. I can actually feel the resonance coming through the body when i play it now! I still have everything else stock on this Strat and i think i'll keep it that way... I think the pickups have a pretty nice "vintage" tone to them.
Yay for me! I can do what 90% of you guys could do ages ago! Yippie!
