Sweeten up a Peavy Delta Blues 115

I have recently purchased a Peavy DB115. I am quite pleased with it. It has a big bright sound that I would like to darken and sweeten a bit for Harp. Pedals are cool, but I'm not getting quite what I want. Any tube suggestions for a sweeter darker (fatter?) sound? It is stock w/ sovtek (3)12ax7's and 4EL84's. I've got GT and RCA au7's. as well as ax12's(EH too). No spare power tubes. Thanks

JJ's will darken the sound, some like it some don't. EH to me always sound (too) bright.

I put JJ5751's in V1 and V2. I don't play harp, but love the results for use w/ a guitar.

Good Q lil'PB I was wondering the same thing. I have JJ el34II's in another amp and they sound great w/rca pre-amp tubes

Re: Sweeten up a Peavy Delta Blues 115

i would try what you have in there and see what works best. i do that with most amps that i get, roll tubes in and out till i find what i like most then leave it alone

Re: Sweeten up a Peavy Delta Blues 115

go for jj's in all spots. Try a 12au7 in v1 to tame the input gain and make the dirt roll in a little more predictably.
Tubes only can do so much in terms of changing tone tho, so put in a nice eminence 15 and you'll be kicking goals.

Threw a JJ "Blues" Set in my '94 Blues Classic 50W 1x15 (along with a Celestion Fullback Replacement Speaker) and it sounds beautiful all around. Can't complain about the JJs. That said; I'll be retubing my '92 5150 soon but I'm really leaning towards Mesa Tubes in it after having had some in a Marshall JTM 50 Tremolo and loving the tone it gave. Did a bit of research and the Mesa Tubes got good reviews and high praise.

Surely they are re-branded tubes from one of the few remaining manufacturers. Wonder whose? and does Mesa further 'test/qualify' them? and does Mesa continue purchasing from the same source or change periodically. You could be just paying a middle man $$$ for their branding. :dunno:

Based on what I read there is a bit of "quality assurance, matching, etc." tauted by Mesa but the prices are about the same as the other tube manufacturers and yes, they're definitely rebranded as you indicated from some other manufacturer.

You might want to consider a speaker change out, although the speaker in the DB is already pretty good, I put a Cannabis Rex in my Peavey Classic 30 and it was a pretty dramatic change.
