Switch trem to Floyd...how difficult?

Moshpit817 has a Floyd in the Trading post. Not sure if its an OFR or not. Based on price alone, I'd guess not.

But it got me thinking........

My Ibanez SA160 has (I believe) a SAT Pro or a SAT 30 trem. How difficult would it be to switch over? Would it be worth it?

I don't have any floyded units, so I'm naturally curious about them. Never set one up or tuned one before, so it might be a good learning experience? But I don't want to wreck the SA permanently. I really like it. Is it possible to switch and if I don't like it, switch back?

FR has dimensions on their site that you can use to compare to what you have going on, if that helps.

I cant find a technical drawing of the SAT bridges, but measure your stud spacing

Re: Switch trem to Floyd...how difficult?

If it was me i would look for a better tremolo thats suitable with your spacing.

But yeah i'm getting lazy.

I've found that a good set of locking tuners on any guitar with a vibrato works very well, unless you are doing the wildest of metal divebombing.

FWIW,I'd prolly just get a guitar that already has a Floyd-style.
CL,Pawnshops,etc...

If you end up hating Floyds, just get rid of the whole damn thing.

Thanks for the input, guys!

FYI, I wasn't actually looking to change over. I just saw the item on the trading post and it got me thinking. Overall I'm happy with the existing trem, as I don't use it a lot (if at all!). I just always hear about Floyds and thought if I could do it on the cheap and easy, why not? But yeah, I'm thinking I might not be wise to risk messing up a nice guitar.

Maybe I should learn to play properly first, before trying Floyd-bombs! ;D
