I wouldn't knock the amp, since funds are an issue, but use all those OD's on a better amp, and your tonal world will come to life. One thing I learned early on was to always sell and add money. It's not hard to get into better amps, you just have to move on it.

Dude, with an AOR Pro-Tube your gain issues would be solved, a tubulator would give you all the gain in the world with that baby, fatten it up with some analog chorus, and you are in serious metal bidness.

Naaah problem is... the Laney has a defective main filter cap. I gotta repair that first. Even clean tones have a inherent noise to it. I really gotta repair it. I don't even really like its gain tones so far.

I have a SLO emulation being built and a hot rodded Marshall emulation as well. Both use JFETs but I haven't finished yet. That should take care of the higher gain stuff. Though I may not even need the Marshall pedal hehe...

The VC15 is a pretty good amp too. Sounds gorgeous. I wouldn't mind something better but I have no income I already sold all of my pedals a while ago The guvnor isn't mine either it's my flatmate's. In the UK I wouldn't get anything for these pedals, not even a tenth of what I would need for a new amp.
The VC15 is about as nice as they come before I hit the 500 mark. Then I want a Cornford Harlequin pretty bad hehe... even though that's 'only' 5W. But under 500 it was a VC or LC of some kind. Or a Valveking... but VCs sound better to me.
