Taking a guitar to a tropical climate...?

Any major issues I should be aware of?

I'm thinking of taking my mahogany neck-thru maple sided superstrat to a tropical climate for a while...I guess I may have to get the neck adjusted right?

Is that difficult on neck-thrus? Better to take a Tele?

Was wondering about taking an acoustic too, but might be too difficult to take two guitars on plane travel.

If you take a mahogany guitar the wood may desert you to leave it´s slavery and go back home... this can be compounded by a rosewood or ebony fretboard subliminally saying "Hey we´re home, holmes, follow me to La Playa!" :laugh2:

Take a truss rod wrench with you, regardless of which instrument. ANd make sure to let the guitar become acclimatized before making adjustments ;)

Just take your acoustic, and a trussrod wrench. You'll probably get more use out of an acoustic.

If you had any idea of how many times I was subjected to that "vamos de la playa" song on 'el continentalis estereo.' For the two years I lived in Panama, every frickin' day...

Actually, I'm goin for a year. Planning to join a band, so I'm lookin at taking one electric, and my Maxon OD808.

Lived in Panama (hence "Panamang") for 6 years. Have been to the same Playa as you and, yes, the song sucks :13:

Keep your guitar stored in an air conditioned area if at all possible. The humidity is killer to your instrument if left out very long.

Personally I wouldnt worry about it that much. Thats is one reason guitars have finishes on them. Take a truss rod wrenh though, you may or may not need it.

The humidity will screw up anything metallic. Hardware will rust and your pots will go bad. Keep your gear wiped down and clean all the time. Also, ever see a leather strap turn green? It can happen.

Stink...those Panama issues could certainly be an issue...not sure if I'll be able to store it in an air-con environment...

Temperatures in the upper thirties celcius are common, and humidity is high.
