Taking finish off a fretboard?

I am looking at some GFS gits, I'm planning on using it as a vintage project. So I was looking at the butterscotch, but the fretboard/neck (just like the origional) look like a nasty yellow in the pics. I figured I could just sand down the neck and finish it with tung oil or the like, but could I get that off the fretboard without removing the frets (Don't trust myself to do that, and not sure I want to pay to have it done and then redone).

If not I think I'll go with the second pic and do 60's tele instead of a 50's, even though I don't think that is was a finished used it's pretty sweet.

What I found to work pretty well was some paint stripper on a rag, then rub a small amount all over it. then take some light steel wool and take all the stuff off. Repeat till its to your likeing.

Yeah, I'd go down the stripper route too.....er paint stripper that is. So much less invasive and more forgiving if you're a bit heavy handed here and there.
