Re: taking off floyd rose and putting back on

Pop the springs in back, and with a little luck, it should lift right out (depending on your route and the height your posts are adjusted to).

When I was testing pickups in the guitar in my avatar, I had a spare pickguard that I would swap in and out. I simply popped the springs in back, lifted out the Floyd (kept the strings locked at the nut and the bridge). Then all I had to do was put in the new pickguard (that guitar has quick connects for the ground and hot), tighten down 2 screws to keep the pickguard in place, replace the Floyd, and reinstall the springs.

If your Floyd doesn't lift right out after popping the springs, I would suggest measuring the height of the posts (and writing these measurements down somewhere) before loosening them. If you use those measurements when reinstalling the Floyd, your bridge height should be in the ballpark.

Getting the springs back on can be a pain. I suggest using a pair of needle nose pliers to hook them back over the spring claw.

Re: taking off floyd rose and putting back on

^ what he is saying looks right. Floyds are really much more simple than most ppl think they are.
Might I add, don't get a floyd gtr if u'r too afraid to mess around with it. u'll just fear it and wind up selling it, never playing it or paying for a setup every time u change the stgs..

Re: taking off floyd rose and putting back on

If you disassemble everything neatly, it'll setup decently when you reassemble it.
But, you'll really need a good, fine tuned setup, once it's back together. Once it's action is set perfect, and the intonation is spot-on with the Floyd set up perfect, you'll have a perfect playing 5150 replica. It would be a fun guitar to have for nostalgia sake.
