Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

You got rid of the Y2D? Wow, that's too bad. I love mine.

It was an awesome, surgically precise instrument. I'm old school right now. Plexi style amps, strats, and LPs. MM was a versatile tone machine. But, like PRS and other brands... it didn't truly capture LP or Strat tones. Plus, the lack of forearm contour bugged me. What a perfect beauty she was tho!

Btw... picked up a sweet Epi Pro/FX (Floyd Rose) yesterday, and a beat-up black LP Studio today. Both great. Studio is chock FULL of mojo! She's a nasty beeotch. Like a cheap streetwalker compared to my LP Standard with Plus Top. But she's got tons of 'tood and is fun to ride! She's been ridden hard and put away wet many times over the years from what I can tell. She's got character. Which is good cause I rarely keep anything long enough to give it character! LOL! I'll be posting an NGD deal on my new axes soon. Five in the past couple of weeks, and the LP Standard a month before that! Seems like this time every year I binge. Wonder why that is...

Don't stop though, I love living vicariously through your gear binges. You've had more awesome amps than I've had awesome farts, and that's saying something.

Oh and congrats on the new axes. I've actually got a NGD coming up maybe this month, definitely by next month. It's been in the making for about 4 months now.

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

Buy amps that sound good. Only sell them if you buy amps that sound better. More speakers = more love. OOOHHHMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

Easy. Ultimately after a week with it you will want to channel switch between the plexi and jcm sides but it won't let you. Bruce is awesome but this one fell short and I think that is why no one ever puts up a video.

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

I just want to add that something about the dude in the demo video's voice and / or way of speaking makes me want to slap him.

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

I hope I never come off that way when I'm selling gear. I'm more along the lines of "Yeah it sounds cool, let me know if you want it."

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

When I think of boutique, I think of something tasty like a Tungsten Crema Wheat or a David Bray amp... isn't Egnator a "bro" amp?

Well, if Bruce Kulick, Michael Franti and Keb Moe use them, they have to be good. lolz!

Egnater is kind of a reverse Bogner - they're known for their import amps but the do make high quality stuff in the USA. Bogner is known for their USA stuff but they also have an offshore line.

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

good it has a n effects loop for all those crazy delays on your pedalboard

I've always heard their name over the years, but never played one.

Plug in to the other channel?

Ah, my mistake. I assumed that since you were considering purchasing one and created a thread for the discussion of it that you already made yourself familiar with the amp features.

Non-footswitchable, no ABY compatibility: call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer for details

"Designed to be your go-to amplifier for iconic tone

Sweetwater's guitar buyers worked closely with Bruce Egnater to make the SW45 amp head a sonic powerhouse. You've got two different channels each voiced completely differently - in fact, it's more like having two amps in one. You'll find that there's actually a separate input for each channel, due to the complexity of the design. They are not footswitchable, and an ABY switch will not work around this. These are trade-offs for even better tone, and also what makes the SW45 such an amazing-sounding, wide-ranging amp."

In simpler terms, see those two vertically aligned inputs on the right side of the picture? The bottom one is for the plexi/clean channel and the top one is for the JCM800/dirty channel. You have to physically plug your guitar into one or the other to access each channel. It's pretty simple really. Instead of using a footswitch to go from one channel to another, you physically have to grab plug your instrument cable into the channel you want to play through.

I hope this helps a bit.

Re: Talk Me Down From This Egnater

I am actually very aware of the features of this amp. I already bought it and it's coming Friday.

I don't see why it's a big deal to unplug from one channel and plug into the other. I've had a single channel amp for the last few years, so believe it or not it's not a big deal that I can't footswitch between them.

I was just answering the question I quoted from you so now I'm not sure why you asked it. Like I said, it's different when you sit there in front of it with both at your disposal but limited in functionality. As I previously stated, after some time you begin to wish you could switch from one to the other because there is so much versatility between the two. Two of the most amazing sounds you can get with that amp is a very vintagey clean on the plexi channel and a low-to-mid gain grit on the JCM800 channel. If you are playing a blues number, for example, you would probably want to click over to the JCM800 channel so you can explode into a raunchy solo. You can't get the same thing on the first channel. It's different, like smoother and less biting or something. Hey you asked to be talked out of it so I was merely trying to accommodate you. Congratulations on your new amp and please make me the first to know if you decide it's not for you.

How does an ABY pedal NOT work? Does the amp shut down if you plug into both channels at once?
