Talk me into or out of a P90

I wouldn't be surprised if a 14K P90 would be higher output than an equivalent HB like the Custom. I mean, after all, it's got twice as many magnets in it.

if you play metal, most likely you're using only the bridge pickup. Put a P90 in the neck for cleans. If you get a phat cat, I would suggest to change 1 of the magnets for an alnico 5.

I'm just saying...you CAN do metal with a P-90.

Because you can, it doesn't mean you should.

I liked the Stock Gibson P-90s. They didn't clean up as clear as I'd like though. My favorite were Jim Wagner G-90s, but with the bridge wound HOT at 22K like his Ironman. I miss that guitar a lot. The regular G-90 was very nice too. 10K

I think I'm going to wait a little more just in case Duncan releases a Custom P90 Silencer

That pickup is not for4 rock - it's for RAWK!

I always thought Gibson P90s are "it". They probably still are for vintage tone. But these Custom P90s are my favorite P90s since I dropped them in. They're not coming out of this SG.

First and foremost:I play metal.... only.

Drop tuned, ugly metal...sometimes tight, and sometimes doomy and sludgy.

I've been quite curious about the whole P90 "thang."

I've never even played through one that I can recall.

I've watched a handful of videos about "will the P90 do metal" with mixed feelings on the matter.

I've been debating buying another LP with P90s in it...or even an SG
Either a cheap Epi,(and replace the pups , or a Gibby with nicer pups.

So.... Question of the day is: in your... Opinion.....

Will I like it, or not really?

For metal I wouldn't consider a P90 at all. It's a great pickup for single coil sounds but "bigger". I use it for clean and crunch but never heavy distortion. Just too muddy for that.
