Talk me out of a custom Warmoth Iceman...

I have a terrible urge to build a custom "Iceman" with a Warmoth body in their Goblin Flake green finish:

I'd either do string-through TOM or a Wilkinson trem for the bridge and load it up with a pair of IBZ/DiMarzio pickups from a late 2000's Ibanez prestige I have hanging around.

Biggest downsides I can see are:

1) Warmoth doesn't do a proper AANJ/Contoured style heel (their default "contoured heel" carve is pretty lame)

2) Warmoth doesn't offer any necks with a traditional "Iceman" or Ibanez style headstock, which means reshaping an existing model or cutting something out from a paddle-headstock if I stick with Warmoth for the neck.

3) My wife says the bottom horn looks like something from an adult toy store...

What other downsides are there?

Wife here
Husband, your killing me with this one lol!! I love a good sparkly guitar but this one... This one is going to be dubbed "Hulks Raging Horn" and I'll never be able to look at it without laughing at you

Ummm there are no downsides to owning an Iceman.

Your wife is not wrong about the lower horn but I wouldnt let that get in the way of the coolest guitar around, plus that Goblin Green is killer and Im not a green guitar guy.

If I ever built one, I want to do an HSS Iceman in a deep purple sparkle

Ok, here’s my thought. Get a set neck Iceman kit from one of the kit suppliers, then have one of the guitar painters “Guitar Paint Guys”, “JGP Custom Guitars and Paint”, “Sims Guitar Painting and Refinishing” shoot a lime metal flake finish.

That way you get your headstock, better heel and color.

I'm failing to see a downside here. Would the headstock have the same paint job? that would be really sick.

I guess one downside might be: you talked about living on the road in a tiny space so to me that sounds more like a need to downsize. I'm horrible at that myself!

To your first point...I would definitely love to have the headstock painted to match. That would indeed look awesome!

To your second point...we decided to hold off on the road trip lifestyle for 3-5 years.

My wife wasn't willing to give up any of the animals (darn) and we have a baby on the way (one month to go!), so it quickly became a lot to tackle!

That, and after blocking off parts of our home to simulate the square footage reduction, it was clear that at 6'4", I'm a bit like a bull in a china shop, even more so when trying to step over animals, water bowls, kids toys, etc...

Ah, great. Let's do this!

Interesting idea! Where can you get a good quality set-neck Iceman kit?

I honestly have very little experience with "kit" manufacturers. I had a mixed experience with BYO Guitars on a custom neck build, though they eventually made things right...

I don't think the bottom horn is all that phallic compared to any other doublecut guitar, LOL.

But I'm sure a Jackson-style headstock would look killer with that guitar as well.

Or maybe a Gibson hockey stick headstock too.

Not very traditional, but could look cool.
