Talk Tele's to me!

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

Note all - I had a Ray Benson Tele for a while. Louder bridge (like a Quarter Pound maybe?) Hot Rails middle, and PG neck, with taps on the middle and neck, and 5 way switching.

Just talking classic here...Tele Neck, Single Sized HB bridge. Maybe a push pull....

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

I know this...yet it allows me to dream. I don't want anything actually as hot as a SUperD or Distortion. But those numbers make me feel good about it rocking!

Hey, feeling good was good enough for me, AND my Bobby McGhee.

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

The charm in a tele is that spank and twang. Not sure you get there with single-coil sized humbuckers. The hotter tele bridges will get the rock tones with no trouble. Beyond that, just watch the neck carves and fretboard radius. The models with a 7.5" radius are hard to transition to when coming from a flatter radius.

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

^ Yeah......I mean the way the thread is going, why both getting another guitar if its just going to do the same as every other guitar you have - utterly pointless.

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

Since the 90's I have held my Tele urges at bay with a Vintage Stack Tele Neck in my old Fender Bullet S-3.

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

If I had a Tele, I doubt it would be traditional. I don't think I could get along with it...besides the ergonomics not being right for me, I don't think I could commit to playing any Tele-style music with it.

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

Had an absolutely gorgeous MIM that I really, really wanted to love but I just could never bond with it.
I ended up selling it last summer on CL

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

Do it Ace!

I had the same itch, I got the Elite in Autumn Blaze. Sweet guitar with belly contour, modified heel, C->D neck....

I intended to do Lil 59 in the bridge and either a full sized 59, Pearly Gates or Strat Lil 59 in the neck. Life has been too crazy, but the stock noiseless are pretty good for now.

Now I have the itch for a blacked out Tele with EMG or Hot Rails..

Ace....I you haven’t played one or haven’t played one recently I’d suggest doing so. They sit very differently on your body than a LP style guitar. I know you have a few LPs and Dean Caddies and I’m sure the tele is going to sit on your body different.
I for one, did t care for it.

Re: Talk Tele's to me!

As budget one could look at Squier Vintage Modified series.
I have a Custom with a wide range and a duncan design in bridge.
I only swapped bridge for a 6-piece, I cannot intonate properly with 3-piece.

If budget is there - look at Shawbucker Tele(american professional series).
Fender had a lovely natural body finish when I got mine, but seems no more. But shops may have it, real pretty.

I got the sunburst but swapped neck to maple+maple rather than maple+rosewood. We only live once, don't we, for my 65th birthday I treated me with this.

Duuuuuuuude. Off-topic: Didn't these guys have a video that was just skateboarders wrecking themselves? I think I remember it being featured on Beavis & Butthead.

On-topic: It's cool how versatile Teles are.

Sorry . . . no idea . . . but that does not sound like them.

My next Tele will be a S/H, with a Quarter Pound in the bridge.
Neck . . . not sure, just yet.

Lil 59, PG, Demon, Seth, A2P, etc. Something like that for the bridge.

These consistently get great reviews. They are the new MVP over the MIM Fenders. These particular models look a bit 70s to me, but some people might really like that.

I had a MIM Tele if 15 years ago or so - and having switch in neck position I just found it suddenly were in middle position by some magic :D
So my hand hit it somehow while playing.
So look for more Gibson style of controls - and these work really well for me.

And it's something about Tele's that make them work well with guitar amps - not too much low end but just enough to sound good and full.
My theory is also that LP is popular with Marshall because the amp cut out some that is hard to amplify nicely with some grit - but just a theory.
Neck pickup on LP tend to be boomy and Marshall fix that.
