Talk to me about Prescription Electronics Experience pedal

Who here has ever used one of these? I just got one off of eBay and I don't think it's working properly. I don't have a User Manual nor can I find one. My model (yellow with red text) appears to only work if the Fuzz is ON. When you turn the Fuzz OFF (which turns the entire pedal OFF because the other effects are dependent on the Fuzz) I lose my entire signal!!!! Gone!!!! This can't be right!!!! I have read bad reviews on HC about the switches being cheap and dying. Could this be caused by a bad switch? I opened it up and everything is mounted to the PCB and I'd have to remove the switches to get an actual look at it which I haven't done yet. Has anyone had to replace there switches on these (3PDT?)?

So my real question is: does this pedal have to be ALWAYS on to be in your chain? Am I going to have to buy an A/B box to remove it from my chain when I don't want fuzz?

Another question... Are the OCTAVE and SWELL modes mutually exclusive? You can only have one on at a time? That is how it's presently working but I have no way to verify if that's correct.

Review: As far as the pedal goes it sounds pretty good. You HAVE to search for that sweet spot. There are many chaotic (not useable) tones that spew at you while your in between sweet spots, but when you find one it sounds pissah!!! Unfortunately the sweet spot for each of the effects require changing the settings so it's not convenient to switch from one to the other in a Live setting.

I can't answer your question, since I haven't used one, but I'd suggest you Email the company. Most boutique companies are more than willing to send you free parts, if that's the issue.

I have one. When I turn the pedal off it's just like any other pedal and I can still hear my un-effected guitar tone just fine.

So there's something wrong with yours it would seem.

Gerajoneser's right...call or write Prescription Electronics. They'll also repair your pedal for you.

Here's the link: http://www.fuzzbox.com/

That pedal is very cool but NOT easy to use. Even with the directions you'll need some time to learn how to use it.

When I don't use mine for a few months I feel like I'm starting from scratch again and it takes me a while to get it sounding right.

The best tone on the pedal is the Octave with Fuzz tone...Eric Johnson has used an Experience Pedal to get that tone.

There's some cool sound samples on the PE site.

Thanks guys! I called PE yesterday and actually talked to the main guy (forgot his name). He basically said that I have a bad switch. I bought this second hand so he said he'd replace all 3 switches for $75 plus S&H. The switches are soldered front & back to the PCB so I don't think I'll be doing it myself... but $75 bucks seems steep for a company to repair their own defective product.

By the way, he said they will be coming out with a new version which has the old point-to-point handwiring as the swirl models (non-LED) used to have.

Does anybody know what ground I have with eBay when it comes to buying a defective product? This is the first time it's happened to me. Is the seller obligated to pay for the repair costs?

Unless the item was sold "as is", the seller should offer you a refund or some kind of compensation if the item was sold as being in "good working order" and it isn't. If the seller won't help you out you can leave the seller negative feedback but you are almost guaranteed to get negative feedback in return...so consider that.

As for the $75 repair charge, I thinks that's on the high side of "fair". Switches wear out. Just like your guitar strings, shoes and underwear! LOL!

Your pedal will probably come back newly adjusted and working like new.

Swell doesn't work unless octave is engaged..If your not sure swell is on just turn swell to volume to zero and you'll have silence. This pedal is incredible, but is takes some tinkering, in swell mode..Messing w/ all the knobs are exremely interactive, in swell mode. Some people think its not working right for a while, then they get it..Other problems your experiencing don't sound right, as far as the pedal shutting down signal when off.

I think about 14 years later the problem is well and truly past tense.

Too bad Prescription Electronics is out of business. I remember lusting after this pedal in high school in the late 90's.
