Yeah, they are essentially chambered mahogany bodies with maple tops and F-holes. A great combo between a Les Paul and an ES335. They have an access plate on the back for the electronics so a ton easier to work on/swap pups.
I've got an Epi Alleykat with similar construction to those midtowns.
It's definitely got its own sound. Less more lows than a 335 and more midrange honk than a LP. Even with a SM-1n/Demon combo, it's easy to get dark, smokey tones, clean or dirty.
I tried a few at NAMM really hoping to like them. They were the most boring sounding guitars out of all the Kiesels I tried. I really wanted to like them. But there was no characteristic semi-solid tone there. Sounded like a generic solidbody. They were pretty, but that was it.
Really? Good to know as they are one of the few Carvin Kiesel models i haven't played. Wonder what the pickups were on the ones at NAMM? In suspect the A2 Beryllium as they are the standard default pickups. A semi hollow is something i don't have and was looking at those. Was thinking building a pretty basic one and sending them a set of the Psyclone full size pickups to go in it.
