Talk to me about the Fulltone Fulldrive 2, please.

Re: Talk to me about the Fulltone Fulldrive 2, please.

So, GJ...how does that Cold Fusion compare to your Klon??? :)

Re: Talk to me about the Fulltone Fulldrive 2, please.

They're similar, and both are rated as the top clean boosts by most pedal geeks.
The Klon kind of enriches the sound of any amp it's plugged into, and it's like turning up the gain or volume on your amp. Very neutral, with a slight boost of every frequency, not just the mids. Kind of like a Sonic Maximizer with a gain and volume control. It has a nice bouncy, tubey quality under your fingers.

The Coldfusion seems similar when used as a clean boost, but has more crunch and growl as the gain gets turned up. It's more aggressive sounding compared to the Klon. The only way to really describe that difference is that a Klon is more 6L6 like, and the Coldfusion is more EL-34-like. The Coldfusion would work better as lead tone because of it's crunchy gain. The Klon works better as a boost. When used as a true overdrive, the Klon is more Robben Ford, and the Coldfusion is more Billy Gibbons. If you don't need a dual mode pedal, I'd get the Coldfusion. Look it up on harmony.

Are they using silicon transistors in these?

I haven't gotten to see one close up, but I'm pretty sure they use a silicon op-amp in the 4558 family. No germanium, sorry. :laugh2:

My question is do you think people would pay more for the extra warmth of the germanium over the 'chilliness' of the silicon transistors? I'm from the 'if your gonna do it, DO IT' school. :burnout:

If you can, check out a Crowther Hotcake. Used with the gain on 0, that pedal defines transparent. Also a cool od/fuzz. Read the HC reviews. Cheap for boutique, too.

I'd be on that Hot Cake in a minute if it were true-bypass! :yell:

"The HOTCAKE is built in a small all metal enclosure and is true bypass but with LED."

HotCake

They must have changed the specs, because the earlier ones weren't TB'd...
